Started the car this morning only to hear a loud beep and the parking sensor dash switch flashing. On reversing out of drive no blips...

I've had the constant beep problem when it rains (just need to wipe the sensors and everything was fine) but this was different.

Just had a look under the rear bumper and all looked fine on RHS. LHS however was a bit of a surprise... Three thin cables attaching to the bumper sensor have been damaged. Can see copper cores and green cable is stripped back and broken a few inches from the sensor.

It looks like any stones etc. can easily be thrown from the rear tyre and hit the cables. They are not protected in any way other than a bit of black tape.

At least I know what I'll be doing tomorrow

Didn't get a chance to look at the front sensors but I'm hoping that fixing the cables should fix the problem.

May even get the waxoyl out at the same time.

I know the post is old(ish) but it still applies for anyone with problems.
If it is vulnerable to stones/chippings etc and is only protected by tape, think about wrapping some spiralwrap around it, as in this pic link. Can be bought at any Maplins or electrical outlet.

Yep, both front and rear sensors beep continuously when it rains, and in the snow the other week, then fine again when everything dries out.

Well I've been smirking at these sensor problems and guess what? It wasn't raining last night when I left work, although it was murky, stuck it in reverse and all hell broke loose with a low frequency continuous beep. The same when I reversed into my drive at home but behaving perfectly this morning

A little late, but here is my experience with parking sensors...
I too had problems with the parking sensors, mostly when wet.
But since I've took out any trace of paint that, by mistake or not, was on the seal between the sensor and the housing, not a problem at all.
In other words, make sure that the rubber seal is free of any material that may be retaining dirt, water, etc. and the sensor itself is floating only on the rubber seal itself.
It is important this "floating on the rubber", because being an ultrasonic sensor, the sound waves emited by the sensor must be received only after they are reflected by an obstacle and not on a "shortcut" path localy.
By analogy, always your voice on tape is different from what you know/hear, because part of the sound you hear is through the skull bones. Exactly like that is here. You need to remove any other thing that will make the sensor to "hear" its waves locally.
Any local "shortcut" or "ultrasonic wave short-circuit/loop" will be translated by the sensor in/as a very close object.
Sorry, I hope that you understand what I mean, English not being my first language...
In the picture below there are clearly seen on the edges, the remains of the paint, not so artistic removed from the rubber seal.

I cleaned all my sensors with Mr sheen ! as a water repellent never had any issues since when it rains. I wipe the black bumper and sensors with silcon after each wash and sensors work better then ever. No problem with tow bar electrics or caravan on the rear iether.
Job Done. Been ok for two years with this method.

The parking sensors on my 07 GS rarely work. The engagement sounder comes on occasionally when I'm driving forward. The radio jumps stations and does not switch off when I remove the key. I bought it two months ago. I've had it back to the supplier twice who cannot fix it. They have taken it to Stratstone, Newcastle who also cannot fix it. I don't think it's the sensors as the engagement sounder does not come on. I think it must either be an intermittent connection, faulty relay or bad earth. Anybody got an idea where to start looking.

I just can't understand what all the fuss is about. here is a far better method than using a cars sensors for reverse parking, what I do is to get the other half to stand behind the car whilst reversing. As the car gets closer to say a wall she starts off with a warning shout, then getting closer she starts screaming which gets continuously louder. When she has stopped I know I am as close as I can get. Works every time
