That socket may have just got away with it, should be no shorter than 300mm horizontally from sink, but if it's a new installation it must be protected by a 30mA RCD. |

Very nice, where are the kick boards? Like the picture right above the socket hope you didnt drill the cables fixing it. Thats why everything in a domestic property has to be covered by a 30ma rcd now, to stop you diyers killing yourselves or others. |

That reminds me of my ex in-laws old damp house that was wired using the old lead covered cable many moons ago. They put a picture up on the wall and whacked a nail through the buried lead sheath into the live cable without knowing, and as the earthing was non existent on a wet day if you leant against any wall that was damp with your hand it would give you a belt |

Ah the good old days, no earthing no faults, the problem nowadays replacing a consumer unit for a nice safe rcd and mcb protected one it trips out if there are any faults how inconvenient "it never use to do that before".

Trouble was, even when you had no appliances turned on you could still be racking up an electricity bill due to the earth leakage |
