my mate left bradford and got to bingley in the same time... could have flown to lanzarote! I'm thinking of still trying to drive to work in the morning just cos I like the challenge in the freelander.

I was one of hundreds of motorists who were stuck on the M25 (J7-J10) last night, due to ice & snow, lack of gritting and jack-knifed lorries and abandoned cars, making progress very very slow. It took me 3.5 hrs to cover 2 miles from J7 to J8. Yet again I was so pleased to be in my FL2 in such challenging conditions; using the amazing terrain response (grass/snow). The half-mile long uphill exit ramp was the final test, which several vehicles failed to complete. I just hoped there would still be a navigable track through the cars randomly scattered up the ramp, as my FL2 just drove gently past them, maintaining traction all the way.

I love my FL2!  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

It snowed heavily and this morning I had 12" of fresh snow to start off against, I put it in snow mode but although I had traction and needed some grunt the power just dropped and I found it difficult to get started in overcoming that mound of snow, it felt like it was going to stall.
Would turning off DSC have helped or would "general mode" have been better? or, what would you have done.

100% due to Dynamic Stability Control being active. Turn off the DSC in this situation and you will be fine in GGS.

Thanks James, I was a bit confused over when and when not to use DSC and after reading your earlier explanation it became clearer, but like most people, hearing it from someone else helps convince.
Just to wrap it up then I assume that DSC is a positive thing when moving in normal mode and even in snow, but can be a hindrance when initially starting off in snow.

Yes, spot on. I've added a section from the manual above which gives a list of when you may want to switch it off.

In essence, always keep it on, unless you can feel power reduced when pulling away in certain off road situations. Once rolling you can then switch it back on.

Equally, when driving on compacted ice it would be great to be able to switch off the ABS and cadance-brake, however this isn't a feature that manufacturers would be brave enough to offer!!

I never thought i'd be interested in Land Rover, but since driving the wifes a few times i'm hooked

The way you explained DSC is exactly the way i've been using. I've also switched it off driving on very icy patches then switch it back on once i'm moving.
What i find annoying is the anti stall feature (mine is a man box) when i want to use the gearbox at low rpm as a brake rather than the footbake. I've been forced to use the footbrake on several occasions when to be quite honest it would have been against my better judgement.

OK I'll shut up because I've never actually driven one to be fair! Although I'm in no doubt that I'd be amazed
