Temperature gauge

Went out to the car this morning, about 8 a.m.

The temp. gauge was showing -8c Shocked

I live in Milton Keynes and the car is parked in the shade, so my question is: How accurate is the gauge after being chilled overnight?

sensor is in the side mirror I believe, And yes they are quite inaccurate, most cars are equally inaccurate compared the the higher quality sensors I have fitted to poultry shed computers to record outdoor temps. At work

I am staying at Allerthorpe for a week (about 20 minutes from York) and this morning it was -12.
The car has been superb out and about in the snow today. We went to the Dalby forest and it was partially closed due to the weather but the journey to the visitor centre and back in the freelander was a delight. Very Happy Thumbs Up

@ CG: If the temp sensor is in wing mirror, what happens when Prog. is selected and the wing mirrors start to get heated?

I thought it was the tiny bubble you can feel under the left mirror (when sat in the car)?

Heated mirrors won't significantly affect it...when you're moving there's air rushing over it. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

it pokes out underneath to hit the airflow while driving, better than under the bonnet or near the radiator At work

The temperature sensor is on the nearside mirror arm, if you feel under the arm or mount you will feel a small nipple, only the mirror glass is heated by a filament stuck on the rear of the glass
