United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Narvik Black
Automatic Gearbox

Hi Folks

quick poll to find out if people with auto's find that it take at least a second for a gear to engage (ie drive or reverse) Question

I've just come out of a bmw auto and this seamed to engage gear pretty much immediatly once it was selected. My 2007 FL2 seams to puase for a second between selections during which time it will freewheel. This is possibly over emphasised by the fact I park on a slope and the bimmer had hill-hold hence I may not have noticed any sort of delay???

Also I have noticed that when flipping from reverese to drive and vice versa, if you give it a bit of gas without letting it settle it will lurch a bit as if the transmition is trying to sort itself out - is this normal? Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Don't think that mine does it, but then I leave my foot on the brake until the engine note tells me that the drive is engaged... Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

It is normal for this car. I've driven a number of auto FL2's, the most recent being a 60 reg with 200 miles on the clock. They are a tad slow to engage compared with other autos.

As stated above, you feel a slight shunt when the box engages. Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Ours is the same - a bit slow to enagage and sometimes clunks forward to reverse - particularly if you take your foot off the brake too soon. Its a bit quicker to engage when in sport mode.

Yeah, its fair to describe it as a bit lazy but you get used to it and its a nice smooth change wehn driving. However, the auto in my D3 is much quicker to engage so the FL2 catches me out sometimes at roundabouts when I have been driving the D3 for a while then swap
