The first picture in the review is seems like from a FL2 with a premium package - it looks very nice. The rims, the spoiler and I like the colored door handles.

Irrespective of driving, performance, practicality etc issues, one area where I think LR wins hands-down with its entire range is looks. I think all the Japanese/European manufacturers just don’t get it; they seem to let their car stylists design their 4x4s. And whilst cars have “softened up” in their appearance over the last decade or so, the right look for a car isn’t necessarily what’s right for a 4x4, I think many people wanting a 4x4 for it’s “go anywhere” capability (whether they’re going to use it or not) want it to look the part. It comes down to that personality or soul of a vehicle, something Far East designers really struggle to understand, demonstrated about 10 years ago when they gave the Subaru Impreza a facelift and changed the narrow, aggressive angled rectangular headlights for some nice big round friendly “eyes”. The car lost so much street credibility overnight, and sales of disguise headlights must have hit the roof.

Look at your average Japanese or European car these days. The aggression and presence of the last century now looks dated compared to the virtual absence of straight lines and angles on modern cars, non-threatening smiling radiator grills, and those large fan-shaped wrap-around headlights that seem to be compulsory on every new model (I hate them!). But I just don’t think these styling cues translate onto a 4x4, they just end up looking like toys in the case of the compact size ones, or they’re too fundamentally big and box-like to pull it off (X5, Cayenne etc).

Maybe blessed with the fact that it’s never built cars and therefore only has 4x4 stylists, I think LR has done a great job of releasing new models that look modern, but still look the biz and look unmistakably LR. Some of the US manufacturers seem to still understand that a 4x4 can look rugged without looking dated or ugly (look at the demand for the “mini-Hummer”), but even some of their established 4x4s seem to be gradually going from Andy McNab to Hugh Grant.

I guess at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste, but I can’t believe I’m the only one thinking this, am I?

No your not the only one NF couldn`t agree more, Landrovers definetly have that special something in the looks department

I agree for 100 % NightFox.

I remember a couple of years ago one of the big chiefs of Renault said it didn't matter how a car looked as long as it was eye-catching.

I remember also they stopped the production of one of their creatures because nobody wanted it as it was too ugly...

Yup! our LR2 is surely an eye candy ...most of the time when I gas up I hear compliments from other drivers saying "nice ride" "cool car" "wow nice one" "it's a land rover right? nice" "great color" "looks awesome man!" and these are coming from people driving merc's and beemer's.
