Fitting roof rails

I am shortly going to fit some roof rails. Any pitfalls I should know about first.
Thanks

United Kingdom

The fitting kit requires you to remove blanking plugs and fit supplied bosses, these should be sealed with a sealant that is not supplied - I used silicone.
You have to remove the plastic side strips on the roof and drill large holes through them - I used a hole saw, the plastic strips are held down with double sided adhesive foam strip. When lifting mine the strip became damaged and I had to race around on a Saturday looking for an alternative.

Allow a couple of hours to fit, next time will be quicker - because the dealer will be fitting them. Evil or Very Mad Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Nothing to it - simply really if you take your time and follow the instructions that LR provide.

Tip 1: put something on the roof to prevent tools or roof rails from hitting and scratching the paint work.
Tip 2: have someone else on hand to hold the rails for you.
Tip 3: get plumbers silicone outdoor pipe sealant to make those roof fixing bolts watertight.
Tip 4: take your time - allow about 90 minutes to carefully work through the job to completion.
Tip 5: finally when installing the black plastic rail covers (three each side) put some silicone sealant on the inner surfaces to prevent them from being blown off when traveling at speed (replacements are shockingly expensive as you have to buy a complete set not just the item that's blown off.)

Thanks for all the tips, job done in 90 minutes, worst bit was the cross bar with the four bolts that were pigs to tighten. Thumbs Up 2009 FL2 GS
