Spent some time yesterday with 2 LR dealers looking at a MY11 TD/SD4 (both) XS Auto as a replacement for my 57 plate TD4 SE (Manual) in late October when the PR PCP scheme finish's

Observations so far (mainly negative):

Trade in value
based on 45K miles (in October) TD4 SE with metallic, full leather, side strips and in excellent condition. Both dealers offered 15K, one eventually improved this to £15,750

Retail Price
Best offer so far £1,700 approx off either TD4 or SD4 XS (both metallic, automatic, full leather, DAB Radio, iPod connector, side strips)

PCP - 3yr x 15,000 as with current car
Finance offered was 7.9% - although have since noticed LR website states 6.9% for Freelander 2!
Residual values have dropped noticeably which also makes PCP more expensive. £10.4K TD4 10.8K SD4

E-mailed Lookers yesterday with my shopping list and contact details - hopefully I will get a response soon.

General impressions are that the dealers I have met so far are only interested in repeating in the figures the 'system' spits out "yes its a lovely car but the system says..." and are not well informed about the MY11 changes.

Why they may not have been 'trained' yet they could at least read their own literature!


We will see how things go - the alternative is I make the final payment on my car and have another go in the spring when the MY11 has been out for a bit and there may be more options. 2011 SD4 HSE Ipanema Sand

I had much the same experience when dealing with my dealer last week.
Don't know about pricing etiquette on here but the deal on the my11 was nowhere near as good as the one I got on my 57 plate. The massive change in MGFV has pushed pcp payments way up and actually makes taking a 5yr HP and paying it off in 3yr look much better (to me anyway).
Trade in value is ok-ish and managed to haggle that up when the price new wouldn't come down.

What's the current GMFV on your SE? If more then it's worth then try a 'deal' with finance Co & keep it. The FL only looked attractive to me due to the 0% finance I had on my Sport & FL2, seems those days are over....... 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

joe1978 - I agree completely re the reduction in GMFV. The MY11 car I am looking at has a list price 3K higher than my SE yet a GMFV 2K lower. If you use the £1K=£30 per month rule (which both dealers have quoted) then its easy to see where the difference is.

Triple7 - GMFV on the SE is 3-4K less that the trade in values I have been offered so far, hence the buy it now and have a look later option might make sense.

Having had a very helpful email from Jeremy at Lookers I have decided to make the final payment and keep my car for a while.

It was looking increasingly unlikely that I could make the timing work as a new MY11 was unlikely to be available till late November, and I would also have to dramatically increase my monthly payments to replace the SE with an XS, due to the higher APR and much lower residuals currently available.

Placed an order for a 11MY XS Manual on 28 June and told today it will be ready 5 November. Obviously placing an order now for a 11MY is likely to result in a delivery date at the end of November/early December.

Late November is what I was told which I could have worked around if the financing looked more attractive but I really didnt want to double my monthly payments to get an almost identical car. 2011 SD4 HSE Ipanema Sand

Presumably if delivery dates stretch into 2011 you'll also be lumbered with 20% VAT? 2010 HSE Auto in Santorini Black/almond with xenons and privacy glass.

I ordered my MY11 on Friday last week and was told it will be with me in the 2nd week of October.
I hope that's correct!!??
