Oil leak!

Yes, believe it or not, my 08 plate FL2 (2.2 diesel manual) with a mere 22,000 miles - has sprung an oil leak - a substantial one too! Shocked

Noticed a few spots on the driveway on Monday, so jacked it up, took the sump guard off (found to be full of oil) and discovered what appears to be engine oil dripping somewhere from the back of the engine between the block & the gearbox. All I can say at this point is that is that it appears to be coming from above the sump, and not from the sump gasket itself.
On inspection and as expected, oil level has dropped to just a touch under the maximum mark.

Naturally, a phonecall was made to the dealer immediately and is now booked in for Monday morning of next week. Will keep you updated on the findings etc.

Evening, mate. Hope you're well.

Nah, sincerely doubt it. Damage was limited to underside, and even then it was only scrapes to sump guard, fuel tank sheild & plastic cover around the towing eye.

Told Landrover about that, and they didn't see a problem. After all, the bits mentioned are there to protect when going 'off road', and protect is what they did.
Also, that was back in February. This oil leak is a very recent thing. FL2 HSE Manual in Stornaway Grey

Mine did exactly the same after an "enthusiastic" day out at Eastnor Castle - leaked/dripped from the same place, back of engine.

Took the guards off cleaned everything in site, checked levels, ran for a week guards off, never leaked again.
guards are now back.

The confusion for me was the oil was as black as engine oil, but smelled like gear oil.
Just put it down to her being a Land Rover Very Happy

Would be interested if you found out the cause.
Mine goes in for 30k service in a few weeks, will be asking at dealers when she goes in. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

mines had an oil leak fixed last week.

it was coming from the plastic pipe/breather from the intercooler and they sealed it with a large jubilee clip.

the oil was dripping down the back of the engine and eventually coming out of the sump guard and onto my nice new monobloc driveway.

seems this is relatively common as the dealer knew exactly where the leak would be when I explained on the phone before booking it in.

Was going to say

Stick with it, why pass on your worries to some other unsuspecting owner,

Then the beer took over, and I remember I traded mine in with one week left on the original warranty - get rid Wink

Would you seriously buy the first batch of a new model / face lift?

My 2007 GS developed a major oil leak when 8 months old, cannot remember exactly what was wrong (think it was the crankcase) but do remember that the dealer needed to fit a new cambelt.

The oil leak and the flat battery problems mean that I will not be keeping the car once it is out of warranty but it has not put me off as I have ordered another Exclamation

Gotta take the car back next week as this is an engine-out, 2 day job apparently.
They're not certain exactly where its coming from, but its a good 'un.

All covered by warranty & nothing to do with a result of going offroad. Phew.
Will update next week as to what exactly the problem was. FL2 HSE Manual in Stornaway Grey

this is the main reason that most people get rid before the warranty expires, otherwise you would need very deep pockets !!.................shame really.

Yes, a massive shame. I was hoping to keep this one for about 4-5 years.
Love the car itself, just not the thought of footing the bill for these sort of repairs. FL2 HSE Manual in Stornaway Grey

I had this, think it took them 3 days in total, but over a weekend, so had a loan car for a while.

All fine since then, and I'm still keeping mine when the warranty runs out (unless the facelift takes my fancy in 6 months time)
