Perth Accessories - Roof tent etc

Hi, I have just signed up to buy a new TD4_e, in Perth. Very excited, but I haven't even seen the car yet!! In fact, I haven't even test driven one yet, I am living overseas and moving back to Perth in a few weeks, but wanted to get myself sorted with some wheels asap.

Am wondering if anybody has tried a roof tent on a FL2? Or if anybody in Perth knows who to talk to about this?

Also, recovery points - does it come with rated points or do I need to go and get them fitted and if so - where is best?

thanks!

A

Hey mate,

The roof tent i'm not sure, but i see heaps in the 4WD magizines... try them as they are all Australian made.

The recovery points are not rated, but what i use is the towbar and popped out the tow ball and put the shackle through the hole. Works a treat and have not had any probs... touch wood!

The recovery points aren't rated, but I suspect that is only for legal reasons to protect LR from incorrect use and abuse. I've been snatched using both front and back without a problem (gently does it). However, I totally agree with Dorko, if you have a towbar then pull the ball out and use the pin. Do not under any circumstances hook the strap over the tow ball on either car. A guy was killed a few weeks ago by a tow ball snapping off and going straight through the windscreen.
Roof tents are very popular, seemed like every second car in the centre had one when I was out there a few months back and there is no shortage of suppliers. I've not seen one on an FL2 yet.

Cheers,
Mike

thanks fellas, have seen some various reports of the dangers of the tow ball as a recovery point.....bad idea like you say!

I need to get the dealer to get a tow bar fitted, I read on here that there are some electronics issues so probably easiest to just do it at the dealer?!

Yeh some people have fitted the towbar themselves... to much dramas for my liking. I got LR to put it on and havent had a drama.

If you are buying it in ossie park, use James. Hes a good bloke, tell him you know and ask for a discount... Smile

Yeah, feels like it. Do you have any recollection, roughly, how much you paid to get yours fitted?

I guess Ossie Park?

Have sent of a few queries to see what I get back.

Have you ever heard of / had any delaings with Discovery Auto in Wangara? Just found them whilst searching for Landy specialists, was wondering if they're any good?

From memory it was roughly $1500... which is still steep!

These 2 examples I found on the Italian forum for Freelander2 and they have not reported any problems with weight.
www.fl2italia.org/forum/
Aerodynamics while travelling for Maggiolina is good, but Overcamp bad. The weight of the tents is 50-70 kg.
Maximum weight of 70kg, I think is "on road" - stabilization, and not what the roof can withstand when it is stationary. But I am a novice in this area.

Dorko, I have asked me the same questions you have.
I will not risk damage, so I have ordered a Defender, and I want to buy OVERZONE to the car.
