Did Landrover Experience Today.

Went round the course at the Ashford venue this morning. Very wet & still plenty of snow about. Certainly opens your eyes as to what the vehicles can do. I have never been properly off road before & I never imagined that the vehicles were quite as capable at that.
We went up a very steap mound & the FL2 got stuck at the top (grounded out) The instructor on a previous hill let it go back down with the HDC on (something else I didn't realise you could do lol) but in this case he said he didn't want to as it really was steep & there was a bit of a bend at the bottom adding that if you turn the steering slightly wrong you could tip over!! He went on that even he wouldn't want to do it.
He called a colleage over who had a look & it was well stuck but on his advice I put it in reverse with HDC & kept the steering right & went as the instructor said A Perfect Manovour - well chuffed....

Watching the Discovery 4 over the scollops as the bumps were described was awsome too with 2 wheels off the ground & each one turning in sucsession & then it was our turn - mindblowing!

If the instuctor hadn't been with me I would not have gone on some of the bits as I would have thaught it too extreeme - shows how much I know lol. At one stage I thaught we were at around a 40 degrees lean but it was around 28 degrees which in it's self was worrying.
Right at the end of the course we went back in the wet grass & ruts & I broke the Freelander as it just wouldn't grip with a message saying "Terrain Responce Special Programmes Fault" & we could not get 2nd gear in the Command Shift which I did notice earlier in the run but thaught it was me not doing it properly. Not sure what went wrong but there was just no grip at all so the engineer will be called....
Very well worth going on one of these courses & I may go back & do the day course where you can get a certificate!! perhaps for my next birthday. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Was at Dunkeld near Perth on Tuesday. Your post just confirms what I said about capability of FL2, instructor had me doing things I previously would not have attempted in a Defender Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes let alone a FL2
Was able to complete 3 hills (with lots of snow and ice) then told to attempt one which instructor said I would not manage, came down backwards at a fair rate of knots still in drive, HDC worked perfectly and stopped me in time. Feet tucked under seat away from brake pedal.

Good to hear you enjoyed Ashford Executive Valeter.
If it was wet I don't suppose they did the long drop?
When I last went it was dry so did that a couple of times.
Side slope is good, the FL2 goes further up the slide slope than the D4 or RR due to be lighter, managed to get the wheels to run along the top, until we started to slide then steered into it and down.

I recently got this invite from Landrover to an exclusive ‘Only By Appointment’ event, where you’ll be given the opportunity to find out about the latest Freelander 2. Please arrive at 11:30, on Saturday, 30 January at Longcross.
Apparently also includes a meal, all for free apart from my petrol to get there.

They said "This really will be a unique occasion. It’s your chance to see Freelander 2 up close and in person as well as an opportunity for you to experience the vehicle’s unique all-terrain capability for yourself. Under the expert guidance of one of our specialist instructors you’ll put it through its paces on-road, off-road and on our vehicle evaluation track in conditions that replicate the toughest environments on earth – from the ice roads of Sweden to the dust of South Africa… and almost everything in between. "

We did do the long drop. I have to say that sitting at the top I was a but concerned with me being in the drivers seat & the instructor said "Do you want to do this?" I briefly paused & said Yeah sod it I'm here & you ain't going to get the chance every day - started going down with the HDC & let it do it, a few slides & a cringe but 20 mins later went up & did it again!!
Couldn't go in some of the water as it was too deep even for the Disco.

Your invitation sounds very nice. What did you have to do to get that? (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Fill out anything and everthing you can from Landrover and their dealers, you will be offered days from both, my last freebie was an FL2 Factory tour followed by a few hours off roading in an FL2 and Disco 4 just before Christmas.

The best Freebie I've had from Landrover was a full day at Gaydon in a Range Rover Sport SC - Part one was high speed around the test track, part two was off roading around the factory off road test track and part three was a tresure trail on the road wher they let 10 of us out on our own - it was like the whacky racers. Shocked

Did the trick as I ordered one on the way home - pity it turned out to be the worst pile of steaming Censored I've ever owned but hey ho, buy in haste repent at lesure Confused

Do they not get wise to owners doing this? As they must know our names & what we drive. I will start sending some forms etc. Razz (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

"smo" I'm only assuming this of course.

For some reason I do get a lot of invites for launches, off roading days etc but it could be for a number of reasons, What I'm suggesting above is to try and help others get the same offers - got to be better than doing nothing Thumbs Up
