Thanks for this, just seen your post on Disco3 (already member on there)

I've been in touch with the local team (beds/Cambs), and basically the only thing I'd need to get is a CB Radio.

He's said that an FL2 is fine, and that they'd match the calls to peoples experience and capabilities, but also pair new members with more experienced members, to help them learn.

Need to consider, same as you, if I have the time to give, with new family commitments on their way in the next few weeks. I'm guessing that they'll only be called out in times of bad weather (snow/floods/gales), need to discuss with my better half.
