I've looked at this myself - yes it's about £120 for the wiring loom |

The connector block is in the boot on the left hand side (see my gallery picture 11) - If your fitting a LR new 13 pin I would guess it's a straight unplug of the old and replug of the new - If you get it from a dealer ask to speak to the service manager for fitting guidence, if he see's that you've just purchased the kit I'm sure they will be helpfull. |

Before I had the FL2 I converted the Merc to 13 pin from 12N/12S by simply taking the two sets of wires off the 12N/12S and conecting them up to the 13pin. As long as you make sure that you waterproof where the two thick 7 core cables enter the back of the socket it should all work fine. Dont forget though that you have to have a seperate earth in the 13 pin for the fridge etc. to work properly! Ralph

Going to do that myself when I get the issue of faulty parking sensors out of the way (Don't want the dealer finding an excuse i.e. suggesting me tampering with the electrics made the sensors faulty).

I may have overlooked the obvious here, but I was told that when the dealer activates the towbar electrics, they need to distinguish between 7 pin sockets and 13 pin sockets on the diagnostic kit (Land Rover Owner article a few years ago) . Ive no idea why they would do this as the wiring is electrically the same. Anyone had any problems when converting from 7 pin (x 2) to a 13 pin socket? |

As RalphK has suggested, if you swap the 2x 7pin sockets to 13 pin yourself, make sure to water proof the back of the socket where the cables enter, preferably with a potting compound. I have heard reports of problems with water ingress where sockets have been changed.

When I had mine done as per the Auto Electrician I used, he always connected the wires on the back of the socket, before injecting it full of silicon sealant, in twenty years of using this particular Sparky, never once had a problem. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

Regarding use of the later single 13pin connector system can anybody comment on whether there is any benefit in updating from the Grey and Black plugs ?
