I go bush a lot and want to run 2 sets of wheels and tyres. The bush tyres (Wrangler MTR's) are too noisy on the tar and don't wear well on road and the HT tyres are useless in the bush. I just rang LR to price some standard 17" rims.....$1300 each, (ha! ha! I need to sit down). Also, steel rims would be heaps better in the bush because you can belt them back into shape if you hit a rogue rock. The alloys either get a big gouge in them or crack.
Does anyone know where I can get a wheel at a decent price?

I got a second set of offroad shoes. 17's, which i put some AT Coopers. The rims are not the pretty, but 4WD rated so its legal and tuff as!

The rims are from Speedy Wheels. They had to custom drill the holes. I must say the service was brilliant. 1 Week turn around and it came from QLD to WA.

As you said the HT tires are offroad especially if you have the 19's

Thanks Dorko. My original idea was to have 8 rims total and use one of those not on the car as a spare. So if the road tyres (I have Cooper HT's now) were on then the spare would be one of the MTR's. I was hoping to get the same original rims so that this would work but the price blew me away. Going on your prices the Speedy rims should be about $300 each?
As a side, I looked at the Cooper AT's but was put off by a comment a guy at Mt Dare made. He had Coopers on his Pajero but reckoned he had to go to the ST to handle the stuff out there. Cooper don't make an ST in our size. Apparently the AT are 2 ply side wall. The Wrangler MTR has 3 ply with kevlar in the sidewall and is a good price at the moment with 25% off.
The other thing is forum comments. I have Cooper's and find them good, but have you read the bagging they get in some of the other forums like Ozexplore? Landy's (especially Freelanders) get the same bagging I suppose and I reckon its the best car I've had so far.

When it comes to tires its really a personal choice. Everyone either hates or loves there tires. I was nervous about coopers- reading forums too, but honesty its a brilliant tire has great grip and good bag. I'm sure MTR are good as well.... especially the cool grip pattern.

I drove one of my tires on a flat, my fault but didnt have a choice as i didnt have the air compressor to pump it up. Anyway completely destroyed the tire inside wall and coopers gave me 25% of the price of the tire when i replaced it. The service from coopers are very good.


My advice go with your gut, but make sure the tire has a good wear and heaps of grip. Since changing the shoes on my FL2 has made a huge improvement offroad!

I appreciate you feedback. If you are running 19" on the road then I imagine the 17's would be heaps better off road. Its funny cause the guys out bush reckoned I had low profiles on my 17". Imagine what they would have thought of an 18" or 19". The large rim wouldn't last 5 mins out there, a rock would pinch the sidewall quick smart.

Hi, I have a set of 4 17" GS Alloys with tryres (about 3 to 3.5 mm tread) for sale. Not sure how much it would be to ship them over there but got to be cheaper than the prices you have been quoted for new ones.

Looking for £175 as the wheels are unmkarked, ideal for putting your own tyres on.

Just about to post on the For Sale/Wanted section as well.

Is that 175 (no pound sign on my keyboard ) for the lot or each? Sorry but I really have no idea of the value of things in the UK, especially 2nd hand. I am really interested to find out more. I only need the rims and the postage would be affected by weight. Does the UK work in kgs or lbs these days? We are kgs and I'm guessing a rim would be 10kgs maybe?

That would be 175 british pounds for all 4 wheels.

We work in both lbs and Kgs here, fruit and veg and food still sold in lbs and Kgs, most other things in Kgs.

Not sure how much each wheel weighs, but I would think 10Kgs would not be far off. If I get time I will weigh one.

Well I can't believe it! I just looked up the currency conversion and the Aussie dollar is now actually stronger than the pound. Its the first time I've seen that for years. Last time I was in the UK it was about 33p to the $ and it cost us an arm and a leg in Aussie dollars to do anything. Its at 51p now so 175 works out at $336. Transglobal freight quote online says they will ship the rims only for about 117 pounds (assuming about 30kgs total weight with each rim being 50X50X20cm)

I can understand its a lot of extra work for you...removing the tyres, maybe wrapping for the shipping etc. Perhaps if you get a local buyer then you should sell them. However, if you can't move them, then please contact me.

I think the FL2 may take 16" rims, if so get those in steel and up-one on the tyre aspect. --
