Squeaks and rattles around wheels

Hi all,

After 33,000km on the clock and many happy trouble-free times in our SE Automatic, a problem finally seems to have popped up.

Every time I drive over a (very) small pothole, or other steep unevenness in the road, I hear a loud squaking sound from the wheel casings, as well as a rattle from the rear right casing. I wonder if there's a problem with the shock absorbers or something. Absorbers also seem to be much harder these days, in other words the smooth ride seems to have worn off somewhat in the last months.

Anybody has experienced this as well, or would recognize what the problem is?

I'll bring it in the the dealer her in Geneva, but (1) none of them speak a word of English, and explaing a "squeak" in French is somehow beyond me; and (2) I already told them when I picked it up after its 1st service, and they said they couldn't hear a thing.

Any good advice would be most welcome! Great Forum by the way!

I had knocks and squeaks appear from my rear suspension after about the same milage. In the end, I had a bush replaced on both sides - not sure which bush. There is a bush on the rear which has been the subject of premature wear for many owners, and has allegedly been redesigned to be larger.
Try grasping the top of each rear wheel and pull it firmly and repeatedly towards you. If you feel/hear any play or knocking then you need the same bushes replacing as I did.
Also, try this again after moving the car - mine sometimes appeared ok depending on how it had come to rest, which was strange??

Thanks, Andy. I'll do the test on the rear wheels tonight, and will make an appointment with the dealer. Sounds like it should be dealt with asap.
