Hi all, as you may have seen in one of my previous posts i won a pair of shadow wheels with tyres on e bay,they arrived and it was time to put them on.
when it came to tightening up the locking wheel nuts they kept slipping off...........when i examined the key it was all bured over,they were on nice and tight but you couldnt get them off as the key just slips round,it was only done by hand by me ,not at a tyre centre with an air wrench .... ordered a new key at land rover, but i have complained as it was the first time i had used it ,crap quality as you look up into the locking wheel nut key the pattern is formed out of normal silver steel ,where as the mc guard ones i had on a honda a few years back had a black toughened steel inner bit (the bit that actially turns the nut) that was toughened so better than the land rover ones Wax on Wax off

it was on here not so long ago about the same problem and i remember looking at mine at the time.

I thought the socket had straight edges but the nuts receiver looked to be rounded so you would have a square going into round which would not seat properly

I think it was cheaper to buy a new set of bolts than just the locking wheel nut too

It could be that when the wheels where put on, they over tighten them using a airgun, I would argue that its a warranty repair or not fit for purpose Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

how you would buy a new set of bolts with the same bolt pattern/serial number is a different matter, but maybe your dealer could used their master set to remove the old ones free of charge

agree...........the design is completely crap. As soon as you use normal force (for a wheel nut), the master nut slips off and rounds the head of the wheel bolt.

I'm on my second set, and they are not on tight.
