According to the Hayman Reese web site (http://www.haymanreese.com.au ) they make a tow bar for the Freelander 2 ... code R2509 price $470. Search under vehicle "Rover"

The LR factory towbar is $1500 fitted. It is Hayman Reese type but only 40mm receiver so if you need to raise or lower the hitch height your options are limited. There is the option of the Hayman Reese however you will still need the electric kit, this disables the parking sensors and enables a cool green trailer on your dashboard when the indicators are on, this is $350 or so and then it needs to be enabled so probably 1/2 - 1 hour of labour. |

Is the wiring kit easily available, or only through LR dealers (where I assume its >>> $350)? |

Many UK car dealers will sub out the supply and fitting of towbars and electrics, as the caravan dealer says. However, I'm pretty sure that at least some UK LR dealers don't: the towbars are LR branded, the wiring looms pre-made and have dedicated plug-in points (and LR logos on the 12N & 12S socket lids), the electronics need updating (for fog cut-out, reversing sensors, on-dash trailer indicator and trailer assist programs to work). The only way to know is to ask your dealer direct, for reassurance on this issue. |

The Australian electricals for the FL2 is different to the UK version. Yes the wiring kit is needed and yes the computer must be told about the fitting of a tow bar and electrical connector.

I have not told my car I have fitted a towbar + dedicated wiring kit, the warning light on the dashboard works fine, the only drawback is I have to switch the rear parking sensors off with a flick of the switch on the dashboard, easy and far cheaper than paying for somebody to press a few keys on a computer. What if there were no hypothetical situations? |

I was booked in to get a Hayman Reese hitch an towbar fitted next Thu 25th but the Landrover service center rang yesterday to advise that Hayman have withdrawn the current product and will be providing a new one soon with different electrics, so I have to wait until that's available.

Just had a quote from a dealer for a fitted Tow Bar and associated electrics - $2K. Just a tad expensive! Now looking for an independant installation but thanks to this forum, the electrics is just as important as the bit sticking out the back with the tow ball on it! |
