Been a little bit of a impulsive buyer recently waiting for the New Car at the end of September, still 2 months to go and i already have got a few things tucked away for its arrival

I am wanting to keep the car as pristine as possible, and at the moment have given up all thoughts of taking it off road and want to get the paint to as near as perfect as i am able too.

So my little stash of things has started......

Your braver than me to use a machine polisher, I would like to give it a go but have heard all kinds of horror stories about going through to the primer.

What do you recommend for the black plastic interior?

There are a few horror stories, one which a i read over of DW about a newbie sanding a scratch out using the finest sandpaper he could find in his garage, this looked to be woodworking sandpaper Went straight through the clear coat and primer

If i go to those extremes (which i doubt i would ever want to) i would get a pro in to do it for me

I am also looking at getting a Paint thickness gauge to take before, during and after readings but at £170 I might see if any DW members in the area could help me and give a all over measure with theirs first.

I did my current car, its definitely not 100% perfect but looking at the car on a night with a streetlight behind it the slight swirls are IMO 80% less than what they was.

TBH it all depends on what your look for, a gloss wet looking paintwork, or a clean paintwork with slight swirls

I thought I was fussy about the condition of my car but all this detailig stuff really takes the biscuit. I guess I have to get some. On a serious note are the polishes etc. that much better than the Autoglym products which I tend to always use? Ralph

AG polishes are good too

I used to use super resin polish on mine, SRP has fillers in it that mask swirl marks were as the polishes I have and use have different grade of abrasive compounds and using them with my machine polisher will take off a micron or two of the clearcoat and remove swirls and scratches instead of masking them

if you use SRP I would suggest you get a wax on it afterwards as the will seal in those fillers and will give a bit more longer lasting swirl free finish. AG High Def wax has good reviews

using a safe washing method will also help such as the two bucket method

1x bucket for soap 1x bucket for rinsing the wash mit before putting it back in the soap this will mean you use fresh clean soap all way through the wash instead of soap that gradually getting dirtier as you wash the car.
