Easier way to get the Haldex pump off? (Larger flange)

Hi, I've seem the videos and posts of servicing the Haldex gen 4 but most seem to be with the smaller flange type. I have a MY14 with the bigger flange and not really equipped for the big'ish job to remove the driveshaft etc to get the flange off in order to get the pump out.

Is there an easier/better/simpler way to get the pump off?

Removing the Haldex is much the same regardless of flange size. The harder part is removing the propshaft, as there's less space to withdraw the prop flange. More space can be made by dropping the rear most propshaft support bracket from the underside, supporting it on axle stands or a block a few inches lower than its normal fitted position. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. if you don't have the right gear & environment, take it to a garage / workshop & get them to do it. Getting the Torx fasteners off the driveshaft is awkward even with the right tools, and the driveshaft and exhaust don't make access easy. It is not impossible, but you do need to be patient.

However, once off the vehicle, you still have to get the flange off the haldex to get at the pump & filter. Some report it as easy - mine wasn't . I had to lash up a supporting bracket in a vice & use a 90cm breaker bar to release the flange - it was on ridiculously tight. Hence why it might be better to let someone else do it...

Unfortunately no, the big flange has to come off to get the pump out.

I did it and eventually replaced the large flange with the earlier smaller one to make future pump removal much easier. It makes no difference to the car having the smaller flange as fas as I can tell. Jules

You have to cobble together something out of some scrap metal strips held in a vice , to hold the flange still whilst you undo the nut on the haldex drive shaft. It comes undone quite easily. Jules

I have always found the nut spins off easily with a battery impact gun. Never had to use any other tools to hold the haldex.
The first time I did the job I bought a set of bearing pullers to remove the flange but didn't need them as it lifted straight off once the nut was undone. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
