My fl2 2013 has the green lcd 5” screen.

Can I just buy a correct year 7” screen and plug it in to existing wiring? And then fit the upgrades listed in this thread to get car play etc? Or is there another “box” and other wiring required to fit the original 7” in place of 5”?

Or any better suggestions?

I've taken the plunge and ordered this system from AliExpress. This is the guide I'll be using. I hope someone else finds it useful as well.

My wife sometimes moans about the state of the 2014 navigation screen etc.

I showed her this and she thought it looked good until she saw the price !

A few weeks ago I got accosted by a Facebook advert for a too-good-to-be-true aftermarket car tablet that supports Carplay and Android Auto. It's a super-widescreen thing but upon looking at their website they do a conventional 7" version as well. https://getcartablet.com/en-eu/collections/carplay-screens

The bit that sucked me in was the price, EUR87 for widescreen or EUR69 for standard with free delivery. I surrendered my card details for a standard and also bought the additional reversing camera and harness as a bundle deal for what ended up at £75 all in.

Well... it arrived, I unboxed. It's cheap to the touch alright and brackets are poorly fitting but fired it up on a 12v bench supply and via Bluetooth hooked up my S22 Ultra to it. I have to say the image is very sharp and good on the eye and wireless Android Auto fully works like a charm! The unit has a built-in speaker that is tinny but loud (good for voice commands), an AUX minijack socket and also an FM transmitter to broadcast directly into the car radio. I've yet to take it out to the car to test these aspects. Given its slim profile I am looking to retro fit it into the screen area of the FL2.

Contrast ratio, screen resolution, menu options and OEM home screen is all very usable. Naturally it has a touchscreen interface (no remote) that is ever so slightly laggy but not to distraction. The only downside is that it tends to run very hot after a while and my phone seems to think itself is hot and has started to pop up warnings about temperature. I have a ticket open with the supplier and ultimately credit card protection if I've been sold a dud. To be honest for what I paid for it the risk is minimal anyway.
