[Wanted] Wanted- Pre 2012 FL2 OEM towing electrics…

Just sold my daughter’s 2012 FL2 with 193,000 faultless miles on it.. brilliant car and she has now inherited my fathers 2010 FL2 with only 71,000 miles on it..
As she has horses and has to tow a horse box I removed the tow bar and electrics from the 2012 car and placed them on the 2010 car… oh dear.. not good but at the time I was totally unaware that the wiring was different..
Thus am looking for towing electrics from a 2008-2012 car please?

Anyone?

Many thanks

Ian

What number of pins are you requiring on the electrical socket?

Ideally 7 pin as its towing an old Ifor Williams horse trailer.. but in reality providing it’s wired for a 2008-12 I don’t mind as we have an adaptor..
Happy to swap it for our 13pin 2012-14 version if anyone is interested?

Regards

Ian

I removed a 7 pin setup from my 2010 FL2. I will look to see if I still it.

Just in case you're not aware, and as I recall, earlier cars need programming and later cars are plug and play when towing electrics are added. I cant remember when the change came in to play but something to be aware of. Thumbs Up 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep (Now gone)
2013 SD4 HSE The posh one for towing the caravan
1973 Triumph Stag I bought in 2009 and restored.

My 2008 needed the tow package activated by JLR SDD, mainly to enable the tow display and also disable the reverse sensors when towing and going into reverse. The 2010 is likely the same? There is no effect on the gear ratio of the transmission or torque band.

Ive had 3 FL2s.

Each had a different OEM towing loom which I installed.

First (2007) required adding a module , fuses and relays plus a visit to the Dealers to configure it.

Second - (2011) easier - just a few fuses and a relay IIRC .No module. No visit to Dealers unless you wanted the reversing sensors inhibited when reversing a trailer - I never bothered doing that.

Third - (2014) easier still - entirely plug n play Jules

Thanks Gents..
I had hoped just unplugging the loom from behind the rear left wheelarch from the 2012 car and plugging into into the same plug on the 2010 car would just work.. alas it doesn’t and plugging it in to a trailer causes everything to go haywire.. drat! Foiled by LR again!

I’ve found the 7 pin cable and bits. It’s all there with the exception of the 3 bolts that hold the socket cover onto the towbar fitting. You will see what I mean if you download the fitting instructions from the PF Jones website. That is where I purchased both my 7 pin and 13 pin kits. I recall having to cut off the nuts that held the socket cover onto the towbar assy when I removed it. New bolts will be available from any decent trade or diy store. You will also see that the cable assy clicks into the socket cover from the rear. When I removed it I had to ease the click-in part away from the socket. I’ve checked it and it still clicks into place, but worst case you can undo the wires and fit a new socket cover.
My FL2 was purchased new in March 2010. I never had to have the vehicle coded to make this assy work. I was towing an Ifor Williams trailer purchased new in 2000 with old style filament lights.
When I purchased a caravan in 2023 I needed to change to a 13 pin setup. Once again I never needed a recode.
If you are happy with a price of £40 including postage then please pm me with your address and I will post it to you. If it does not work then post it back and I’ll give you a refund less the outbound postage.
Nigel

FWIW my current 2014 loom has a 13 pin socket and I just use an inexpensive 13/7 pin adapter for the trailer. Jules

I bought a 7 pin harness, etc, for PF Jones a few years back and I also got a 7 pin to 4 pin adapter at that time for versatility. They have both served me well over the years.
