Iraq 2011 LR2 i6 S Auto Santorini Black
Freelander 2 si6 3.2 engine stalls sometimes

πŸ”§ Vehicle Information
β€’ Model: Land Rover LR2 (Freelander 2)
β€’ Year: 2011
β€’ Engine: 3.2L i6 (Petrol)
β€’ VIN: SALFA2BA6BH248033

βš™οΈ Reported Symptoms
β€’ Hot start problem:
β€’ When engine is cold β†’ starts normally.
β€’ When engine is hot and left off for a few minutes to a few hours β†’ engine starts briefly then stalls, or struggles to start.
β€’ Sometimes it only starts properly if gear is shifted from P β†’ D β†’ P before shutting off.
β€’ Fuel system behavior:
β€’ Fuel pump does not prime at key-ON; it only runs when starter is engaged.
β€’ Fuel pressure drops to 56 kPa after engines stops during some hot starts.
β€’ When the fuel rail pressure sensor is unplugged, the engine may start and stall once, then sometimes stabilize.
β€’ Fuel rail pressure readings:
β€’ ~124 kPa at idle (normal). seems my diagnostic tool reads wrong value i have checked it before with thingdiag 2 all fuel presures were fine 60-70 psi
β€’ 255 kPa when sensor unplugged (default reading).
β€’ Electrical behavior:
β€’ Dash lights and PRND indicator work correctly.
β€’ Fuel pump now powered by a Dodge Charger fuel motor replacement; voltage at pump input β‰ˆ 8.9–9 V at idle.
β€’ Engine stalls immediately when hot start issue occurs, not gradually (suggests ECU or ignition power loss).
β€’ Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) 5v line voltage = 0 V with key OFF.
β€’ Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs):
β€’ P0069: MAP/Barometric Pressure correlation fault.
β€’ Bank 2 too rich code observed previously. gone now
πŸ” Components Checked / Replaced
βœ… Replaced fuel pump motor (Dodge Charger type).
βœ… Checked relays under dash and under hood β€” all click and seem functional.
βœ… FRP sensor unplug test done β€” same symptom.
βœ… FRP plug found sometimes wet internally (cleaned/dried).
βœ… MAP sensor readings appear normal.
βœ… Fuel pump output voltage verified (β‰ˆ9 V).
βœ… Dash gear indicator and shifter interlock operate normally.
🧠 Findings & Patterns
β€’ Issue appears only when engine and ECU are heat-soaked.
‒ Cycle P→D→P before shutdown temporarily resets system, improving next hot start.
β€’ Suggests ECU power/relay or ignition switch logic may not reset correctly on hot restart.
β€’ Engine stalling instantly (not sputtering) indicates loss of ECU power, ignition reference, or injector control, not gradual fuel starvation.
β€’ No dedicated β€œECU relay” labeled in fuse diagram β€” likely integrated within the Central Junction Box (CJB) or Battery Junction Box (BJB).
.The fuse box that's under passenger dash is that contains OMRON G8PE-1A4-U relay I'm not sure if it's main ecu relay and not easy to be changed anyway clicks.
what can be the cause please

Do you still have the P0069 error code.

If so you need to check Air Intake Path (including hoses) very carefully, then the Airpath Sensors (including wiring and connections).

What was the last time it worked and what happened prior to first occurrence of problem. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 85k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 12th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

There was a post on this site recently that their hot soak issue was solved by changing the MAP sensor or cleaning and reinstalling it?
