Hi, Anyone any experience of Kumho tyres on Freelander? I’ve had Goodyear wrangler’s before, OK but noisy when part worn. I’ve had various good prices on Kumho’s, and seen various differing reports of noise and wear qualities. Would value any experience anyone’s had.

All tyres get noisier as they wear. If you swap them left to right they will be a bit quieter. Though not as quiet as when new. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Hi, funnily enough, my early car spares are all new looking Kumho tyres. They are middle of the road tyres, never actually run them on the Freelander, but very good on other makes of car. I have just put a set of Cooper all weather tyres on the 2013 car, quiet and ride well. I got a virtually new set of four season tyres for £84 online. Goodyear wranglers are heavier steering, but wear well. My wife's old car had Michelin MXV4 tyres, very hard ride, but do not wear. Tyres are a minefield on pricing, I find, so if Kumho tyres are at a price you like, you can only try them. Make sure they are extra load, as cheap tyres rarely are 8ply, van tyres are, so have a look, transit tyres fit 16's.

I had a customer come in with a Freelander running Kumho tyres a while back. He was mainly concerned about road noise and how they’d hold up compared to the Goodyear Wranglers he had before. What I noticed was that the Kumhos did run a bit quieter, especially when they were new, but after a while the noise level crept up as the tread wore. The main issue I ran into was uneven wear because the alignment was slightly out, which made them noisier than they should have been. Once I corrected the alignment and balanced the tyres properly, the noise dropped noticeably and the wear evened out. From that experience I’d say they’re decent for the money as long as you keep on top of alignment and pressures

I recently put BFGoodrich Advantage Control on my beast. (235/60/1
They are OK for noise and handling but I seem to have developed a very slight rumble with them. I got them to check them but they say its ok.
I'll do 2 maybe 3 years on them,then I will swap them for some Michelins.

What pressure do you run your tyres at, the manual says 32.Am trying them at 34 at the moment,still got the rumble.

Just had a front tyre MOT advisory, " worn outer edges " on both.

Bit disappointed, they have done 25000. They are Michelin Cross Climate 235/60/16 v107, and have been great to drive on giving great grip and running very quietly. The central tread still has over 5mm. The matching rears will probably give about 30000.I

Decided to go with them again as they are so smooth and quiet but pricey. ( £ 152 fully fitted )
Thinking of raising the pressure a bit to try and counter the edge wear. The steering feels fine with no pulling but perhaps I need to get the alignment checked? FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I’d certainly be getting the alignment checked. If the tyre pressures were slightly low wouldn’t the inner edges also show wear?

checked the MOT paperwork again and it just says edges worn. I do now remember both the outer and inner edges being worn so I could be under- inflation. I have run both front and rear at 2.2 bar. Most of my 12000 miles a year is on local and country roads with just a few long motorway trips for holidays. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I've been running the excellent Michelin Cross Climate+ tyres for nearly 38k miles on my i6; fronts replaced 5k miles ago.

They are definitely the quietest tyre I have had in over 20 years of 4x4 ownership. They also add to the ride comfort, they control body roll really well, they are an all-weather tyre that behaves remarkably effectively cross country and they last well.

Worth the added expense in my view. In fact, I have Michelin fitted on all three of my cars. Tim

Hi guys & gals, anyone got an idea why my freelander sounds likely it's bumping around instead of quietly turning when I go to turn please? Really noisy. New Davanty tyres fitted but my old GG started doing the same.

So you don't need to frequently check tyre pressure every two years!

The psi was while in the outback. Had let the tyres down a touch. But these days tend to run at about 30psi on sealed roads. The 255/60r18 all terrain tyres are so much more solid & obviously bigger than what came with the car. An extra 3.0kg per tyre. We are quite happy if pressure is a bit lower. Been like that for a few years. We have never had any uneven tyre wear with either set of tyres. But they do look like they are eaten by rats due to the very coarse unsealed roads.
