Directional tyre as spare?

Following an MOT advisory of a worn NSF tyre I decided to replace the front two Michelin cross climate SUV tyres, which are a directional tread, with the same tyre and demote the good, but half worn OSF to become the spare, replacing a half worn non directional tyre. Thus giving me cross climates for all 5 wheels.
Only whilst driving home from the tyre shop did it occur to me that now I have a spare that should only really be fitted to the offside due to its directional tread.
So my question is, what do I do if I need to put the spare on the near side? Can I do it as a get out jail card and get the tyre rotated on the rim at the earliest opportunity?
Nigel

The real answer is probably "no dont do this or you'll die instantly" but in reality yes, drive on it cautiously at low speeds if you need to run it in the wrong direction and have the normal tyre repaired ASAP. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

You'll be surprised at how many vehicles are on the road running with tyres on the wrong way round, from HGVs to push bikes. If you are using it for a get you home or to a garage I wouldn't be that bothered.

Ran the DS for months with the two front tyres on the wrong way around. I didn't die, my head didn't explode, but the steering didn't feel right at speed, so I bought 4 new winter tyres. After handing the car back the tyre fitter did say "did you know that the front tyres were on the wrong way around?".

Someone got a good set of Continental winter tyres with 5mm left on them.

Best advice would probably be that you will be fine, but keep your speed below 60mph. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

If you have onboard air, just plug the tyre & air up. We have to do that in the remote outback or you will run out of tyres. If you have TPMS you would have caught the leak before you destroyed the tyre. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
