Just last week,i had a new (recon with reinforced bearing) rear diff put on as it had failed and with a recommended indy.
However, the day after I picked it up the Haldex judders appeared although I initially thought it had something to do with the new diff. Turning hard left or right caused the Haldex to judder.
The Haldex was disconnected and the judders disappeared so the garage changed the oil again but still the judders continued in the hope it may work. Obviously not.
I had contacted Austen at Bell engineering who advised it may be the wrong oil or rubbish oil but after a phone call he agreed the Haldex appears to have gone as well.

Forgive me for continuing to question but how or why would the Haldex fail when a new diff was installed and could it have been as a result of the installation? Has anyone else heard of this happening? I am not able to completely do a Haldex flush at the mo but had replaced around 350mls and it does sound slightly better, possibly.

Tomorrow morning I intend to replace at least another 350mls to see if there is any further improvement.

Thing is, we're due to take a two week holiday in the Dales next month with caravan in tow and have to ask, is it ok to continue with a failed Haldex? Can it cause any other or further damage and should I remove the fuse to stop it working altogether whilst we are away? Our holiday begins at the Cairnryan ferry terminal but hopefully not end there.

Just for info my Freelander, 2014 SD4 with 104000 miles.

I removed the fuse for about three months while waiting for Bell, no problems other than the front wheels spin easier, I would imagine towing a caravan would be ok but others on here who tow caravans would advise better.

I thought that the later FL2 has some form of 'Trailer Stability Assist' system.

I read that it helps with swaying by adjusting the power and using some Dynamic Stability Control functions.

Does this make towing without the Haldex working inadvisable?

Ian, I’ll definitely have to look into that as it sounds a bit scary. Not sure mine has that function though. After a bit of an oil change I intend to take the caravan out tomorrow at some stage for a test run but will be on the lookout for anything unstable.

Even with the haldex fuse pulled it will tow as a front wheel drive only. You may experience a bit of wheelspin that isn't there normally when pulling away from a junction. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

No not yet. I decided to go ahead with the holiday and tow it with the haldex fuse removed and so far it’s been ok. It tows ok in two wheel drive but can’t help thinking I’m doing more harm than good but will try and get it sorted when I get back home next week. Iv been pulling the caravan through some vicious hills in Yorkshire which has been challenging but to be fair it’s got me to where I’ve needed to go.
I had been in contact with Matt who gave me some very good advice which was the reason we continued on our holiday. When I remove the haldex I’m sending him the valve (sorry forgot the name and part number) and the control box for a refurb and hopefully that’ll sort it.
I’m not far from Knaresborough at the moment and my internet signal with giffgaff is appalling so can’t even research whilst I’m away.

Pulling it forward should not be a challenge regardless of 2WD or AWD. Reversing it may offer some challenges in 2WD depending on the circumstances.
