goes into limp mode quite often

hey guys, so my FL2 has been, for a while now, going into limp mode, when i need to accelerate quickly or just need a bit more than the, usual power or even when just going up a hill, about half way up it limps and slows to a stop. but a few times it has just completely shut of and I've lost all power including power steering in the middle of a 4 lane busy tunnel. i was told a while ago that an aftermarket non LR fuel pump can cause such issues but i never looked into it, i just yesterday went to the local LR shop and asked his opinion and he said straight away sounds like a dirty fuel filter, but i don't want to spend the $119 on a new filter if that's not the issue. SO, has anyone else had similar problems?

$119 sounds expensive for a fuel filter but I don’t know the local market. Yes, the fuel filter is a prime suspect if there is nothing else found on a scan. Both cheap, not quite pattern parts that miss out vital internal components and dirty, unchanged in the hope of saving some money, will quite happily cause all the symptoms you’ve described.
You NEVER buy cheap when you buy a Land Rover, new or old, not fuel, and not parts. If you can’t afford to look after it properly, you’ve got the wrong car!

With your avitar you don't indicate which model you have.

If it's petrol like my Si4 the fuel filter is in the tank & gets replaced every 10 years. If you use 98 you can stretch it longer. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Is it going into Limp Mode with 'Restricted Performance' showing?

Are you getting any Error Codes?

If Fuel Starvation ---
You need correct LR Fuel Filter with internal bypass

If 'Restricted Performance' read this

PS Just read Lightwater's reply -- ignore my post if petrol model. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 84k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

As per above - Should be error codes.

If you do change fuel filter, do not cheap out on the unknown brand stuff. Other filters you can get away with cheaper, but don't risk it on this one. I see you got the car back in about 2022... have you replaced it since you got the car? Cos that's overdue!

Does the engine just die? Splutters and no power, runs rough, then stalls? Smoke out the back? Any other info you can give us?

Could this be a follow on from your turbo issues back in '23 or did you get to the bottom of that?

The OP's previous posts may be relevant about loss of Turbo.

I went back to see if any clue was given to his FL2's power unit or model. -- none that I an see, and no info on whether the first fault was solved.

I think we need more info and/or feedback from the OP. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
