United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black

My 2014 has just passed its 8th consecutive MoT with no advisories, it’s only done 51k. I’m always a bit surprised that nothing seems to be wearing out yet. 64 plate TD4 SE

It went pretty smoothly. Lots of Utube videos showing different methods but this was the closest to my way:
https://tinyurl.com/3p35kj95

I didnt dismantle any suspension arms.
I disconnected the ARB links (green).
I cleared the area of cables and hoses - pulling out the ABS sensor, removing the two support brackets (red) - they were very rusty and so I de-rusted and repainted them. I disconnected the EPB cable (yellow).

I didnt use any special tool or chisel to spread the knuckle - just used a bolt in from the other side from the pinch bolt and a piece of scrap metal in the gap to push against and widen the gap - very easy after cleaning the threads.

I loosened the top mount nuts just a little to give a bit more strut movement after marking their position. I use some spring compressors to shorten the spring a bit and then supported the strut with a metal tube on a jack acting on the ARB bracket link (green). You can then tap the knuckle all the way off the strut.

The Bilsteins B4 shocks seem absolutely fine (as Id expect) - very good value too. Jules

What year is yours?

It's a 2007 with 149,000 on the clock.
To be fair, he always comments on it every year and sings it's praises. It's usually about how he wishes everyone would look after theirs the way I do.
But then, I'm a Land Rover enthusiast, not just an owner. So it's more than just a vehicle to me.

I was wondering when did it become a thing about people saying advisory free mot ? Always used to be just glad it passed with out to much cost. On YouTube channels they always go on about advisory free mot etc. just wondered.

Sailed through again today Thumbs Up
Apart from replacing the rear anti roll bar bushes, I've done nothing to it this year. I never got round to doing an oil and filter change either which I usually do every year regardless of mileage covered.
Mot tester said, "Unsurprisingly, another pass!". Again remarking on how much I look after it.

However, as soon as I left the MOT Station, my engine started stuttering again. No engine light. It cleared after a while but came back again after 1/2 mile - not as pronounced, very light, but nonetheless there.
Hmmm....... 1 step forward Big Cry

A 2019 ewock was tested in April 2022 and 2023 when it passed with no advisories. There were no adjustments made to the headlights prior to its mot 2024 yet it failed due to headlamp aim too high but was passed immediately as the tester adjusted them downwards. The lights were then dangerously low as we found out when we went to drive home in the dark. I’ve re-adjusted the lights upwards, not as high as they came from the showroom but useable and the car passed its mot this year with nothing but rear pads wearing thin. If all testers have to use MOT certified equipment, how come one tester can fail something that others have passed especially if as far as I know the lights were set at the factory and hadn’t been touched until the mot examiner in 2024 got his grubby Allen key on them?

When we brought our fl2 from a garage it had a chip in the screen with an advisory clean mot. A year later i returned to same garage for an mot and they gave me an advisory for the chip. From then on taken it elsewhere for an mot with the same screen and advisory free mot. Think it’s down to what mood the tester is in.

The tester that failed the ewock for showroom set high headlamps wasn’t trade. Local authority testing station.

France 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Lago Grey

Just dipping back to the post about ULEZ compliance and costs.

I am genuinely amazed that my 2010 2.2 HSE auto IS actually compliant! Looked it up. No charges!

Same engine as my Citroen C5 2.2Hdi estate which is as welcome is some cities as the Plague!

Sometimes wonder..... Well, quite often actually! Life is an uphill struggle. Only the gradient varies.

Diesel car needs to be Euro6 compliantl to avoid charges…..I.e. registration after 2015 normally.
I have had to pay £12.50 just to go to LHR…still on M4 technically….….FL2 SD4 2012 is Euro5…….Crit’Air 2 for France.
