So if you are getting tyre squeal or scrabbling in slow corners, is the Haldex working correctly as that and the diff should be taking the drive off the rear wheels?

Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

I have driven in mountainous roads in Switzerland & Italy, & some "interesting" roads in France. One wouldn't want to come off the roads with those "little" drops!

We have a left uphill hairpin turn out of our street. Previous cars a RWD & FWD, it was very easy to spin a wheel. When wet it was almost challenging to avoid.

The Freelander has never slipped even in the wettest of weather.

I also walk this street very regularly & see many 2 wheel drive cars spin the inside wheel.

The only major thing our Freelander needed, & my mechanic said it was boarder line, was the control arms. That was last year. He knows me well. I said replace them.

I always have a major service done both before & after long trips & told my mechanic to be extra thorough & reminded him about the trip.

Next year all 6 tyres will be around 5mm tread (AT tyres have more than road tyres to start with) as I have rotated them for the higher wear at the front. I will be replacing all 6 next year.

Simply keeping tyres going to the minimal legal tread depth is not worth it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I think the tyre squealing is due to low pressure and poor wear pattern. No evidence of scrabbling at the back, just a feeling of unbalanced wheels at the rear as you feel it through the seat. First call is to replace rear tyres and have a good look over all the suspension. Due to age and mileage I would guess it's,mostly past it's usefulness, so I'm planning to refresh it, a section at a time. Typical I have a pair of brand new rear struts here which won't fit as I'm now on electric handbrake .
