Door Lock Issue, not the usual ones.

I've searched this forum and others endlessly, but can't find a way to fix this.

I put the child locks on the rear doors of our 2007 Freelander 2. One side is fine, the other won't open from inside or out.

No amount of pressing buttons, holding buttons, banging the door while pressing buttons etc will do anything.

It was absolutely fine for months beforehand, it's definitely to do with the child lock system not working somehow and interfering with the locking system or the outside door handles engagement with the latch.

If the solution requires new modules etc. fine, but I can't open the door to get to the bolts to change things...

Any ideas before I unbolt the front and use an angle grinder to cut the around the lock area from the outside?

Long shot but maybe worth a try do a hard reset by taking the battery terminals off and holding them together for a few seconds leave them off for 20 minutes or so and put them back on you never know. Good luck.

That is one that I haven't tried. I will give it a go in a bit, but I can't help thinking that it's a mechanical issue with the lock/child lock interactions. I just can't access the mechanism to do anything with it.

Before you saw your door in half, I would agree a hard reset, and even leaving the battery disconnected overnight may cure any module problems.

I take it that you are trying this with the 'Child Lock' off.

Does the window operate ok and is it the same both up and down?

With the window down try operating both internal and external buttons/handles at the same time.

Likewise try all other (dashboard/drivers/keyfob) methods of opening and locking/unlocking in different combinations, and of course liberal squirts of WD40.

Apart from a trained car thief, I wonder if someone from a Car Recovery Service would know how to break in through a locked door?

I would suggest if all else fails that you investigate if you can remove the internal door trim, less expensive? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Just spotted this post with a bit of advanced button pushing which cure his Door Locking problem, I think it removes the 'Dead Locking' Function.

Thanks Ian,

I believe that the child lock is on, I can't open the door to try it in a different orientation now... Censored

Window is fine.

Tried all manner of button presses together with handle pulls/bangs in the general area etc. A good couple of hours of that alone.

Door trim has been off in the hope that everything could be removed from within, but without access to the three torx machine screws on the end of the door holding the mechanism, it can't be removed.

I've tried this LOTS when I first tried to fix the issue a few weeks ago, and again today. No amount of button pushing seems to trigger the flashing lights and change anything on the problem door or any of the others. I don't know if it might be a feature for later models perhaps?

Yep, we've had the door card off and pulled cables inside, they were all located where they should be as well.

This is definitely an oddball one. I can't help think that the child lock has somehow become engaged preventing the inside handle from functioning, but perhaps a bit has broken off or something which is preventing the handle on the outside from opening. When you cycle the lock you can hear it making the correct sounds on that door. I'll try the battery disconnect, but probably tomorrow overnight as I need the car lots tomorrow and don't want to throw another spanner into the works.

I did wonder if I undid the hinges at the front end with some extra help and support, whether I'd be able to get into where the latch is, from the inside or out and poke up the latch with something. I don't think it's locked, but I don't know if that would give me any wiggle room.

I can't be without the car for any length of time at present, too damn busy! So I might start early in the day with that plan first, so that I can put it back together again even if I can't open it. Then get a new door on the way together with some cutting discs and sawzall blades!
