My car over night has developed a loud door rattle(drivers door) when going over bumps in the road. Ive done a search and there are a old few threads, none of which seem to have the answer, usually the OP has had it sorted under warranty.

The rattle sounds like the window is loose or something is tapping the door skin on the inside. Has anyone else had a rattle like this?? If so how did you sort it?? I've driven along holding the window and other items of door trim but the rattle is still there. I'm going to take the door card off, i've seen some instructions on here. Is there anything obvious to look for when the card is off or is it just a case of checking for anything loose?

My freelanders drivers door sort of started a knocking sound last week checked it inside to find that it might be the window regulator. My drivers window is quite tempermental as when you close it it wants to reopen.

Definitely sounds like the regulator - does the door rattle when you close it (ie sound different to the others doors?). My wife's MY13 developed a rattle in the drivers door that started off as an intermittent rattle and then became continuous over a period of weeks. Dealer immediately identified it as the window regulator and replaced it under warranty.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, there is no noise when the window is open. I checked last night, I opened and closed the window a few times and the rattle seemed to go away. I even went over a few speed bumps and no rattle. There was a rattle today on the way to work but no where near as bad as yesterday.

Did you change the window regulator and did it sort the problem?
I've a door rattle that seems to be window related - it goes away when the window is down.

I've not had time to do it yet. I've been snowed under. I've noticed over the past month that the rattle comes and goes. I'm living with it at the moment but it's really annoying me. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I’m reviving this 11 year old thread because I have had this same problem which I managed to fix today and thought it might prove helpful if anyone else is having the same issue.
I had rattles coming from both front doors when going over bumpy roads with the windows up.
I removed the door card and speaker and if you reach your hand into the speaker hole and behind the window regulator you’ll feel two cables. One is a bare metal one and one is thicker with what feels to be a plastic outer jacket. It is this thicker one that bangs against the back of the regulator that makes the very annoying rattle. I simply used a double sided 3m sticky foam pad about the size of a 2 pence piece on the back of the regulator where its closest to the cable and then pushed the cable against it to stop it moving. You can do this quite easily by feel through the speaker hole without having to remove the regulator. The rattles are now gone!
