Rear suspension

I swapped over the rear knuckle today (back to the original one that I refurbished, the temporary second hand one lasted about 12 months)

Whilst there I was looking for the source of the knock I get when going over a pot hole (that one wheel makes much more of a this than the others). I found the front suspension arm bush where it mounts to the body was completely shot, so hoped this was the cause. I pressed out the old bush, and managed to get a replacement genuine LR bush to press in. The shell of the old bush was perfect to use to push the new one in.

All replaced and the wheel bearing noise has gone (as expected!) but the knock is still there over pot holes.

I checked everything else and unfortunately the only thing I can find is a missing of oil on the stem of the shock, so I presume the shock has gone. I replaced both sides about 3 years ago with KYB units. IIRC the springs looked ok, so I tried them.

I'd like to go with complete struts with shocks and springs, any thoughts on different brands and where is best to buy them from. I'll be doing the work in 2 months time, so want to get the bits ready etc.

Out of interest if you don't mind, how many km or miles has the car done.

My car has done about +4000 km on these roads & shocks are still ok. We did stop every half hour or so to give us & the car a break.

Tyres at 24 PSI.

I replaced my shocks with Bilstein B4 from Autodoc

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/

(plus aux damper and pinch bolts) in 2023. Done about 12K miles since then - no problems - as expected. Jules

They were KYB shocks, I'm guessing from average milage but I'd say about 27-30,000 miles done in them.

Daily abuse on a bumpy lane, and then regular road miles

My original rear shocks lasted 58K miles, on rural roads and M6, and towing a heavy trailer - weeping was noted at MOT so I changed them.
Still on the original front struts, now at 67K miles Jules

The vehicle itself is fairly high mileage.

The 4 struts that I replaced were all replaced at around 175,000 miles - they were all genuine LR parts, so I was presuming original. The back end was very bouncy but passed the MOT as there was no oil left in then to leak out! They did absolutely nothing and simply dropped to the bottom when let go (once the spring was removed).

Interestingly, with those knackered shocks on, other than the bouncy ride, I didn't get any bangs like I'm getting with that side at the moment.
