The front differential is part of the gearbox. I think you mean the Power Takeoff Unit. Yes, that and the Haldex will both benefit from fluid changes though the Haldex also has filters and a pump that need looking at. |

There are two versions of the Haldex in the FL2 - Gen 3 and Gen 4 - the pump motor (for the pump filter) and replaceable fiilter are in different positions.

The PTU (front differential) doesnt have a drain plug so you need to suck the old oil out via the filler plug.

The PTU isn’t a differential. That is taken care of in the gear box for the front wheels. The PTU is a bevel gear set which takes the drive from the transverse rotating engine/gearbox through 90° to the propshaft and on to the Haldex and differential at the back axle. |

You are indeed correct. My mistake for using the wrong term. Jules |

Yes, the PTU is attached to the gearbox and the haldex sits between the propshaft and the rear diff to which it is bolted. The issue with the haldex is that besides the replaceable filter there is a small filter on the pump which gets clogged. The filter is cleanable when unscrewed from the pump after the pump has been removed from the haldex. Dont remove all 3 screws or else all the little parts inside the pump will fall out (guess how I know ![]() ![]() However some FL2's have a large flange on the end of the prop shaft which is so close to the pump it prevents the pump being removed and the propshaft will then need to uncoupled from the haldex (as was the situation in my case). ![]() I had the large flange on mine replaced with the smaller earlier version to aid future servicing. And just to round things off. here is the newly attached older/smaller flange and new pump for comparison.
