EPB issue

Hi all
I have an issue with my EPB. Most mornings i get in and start the car, let the brake off and start driving. After about a minute or so I get a message up saying there is a fault with the parking break. I carry on driving and after about 15-20mins i start pushing down on the break lever several times and usually the error disappears. And this only seems to happen when it's cold. If i take it out in the afternoon and it's warm, it doesn't happen
Has anyone else had this issue? Do you think the switch could be faulty?
I am looking to sell the car and would like to get this resolved without having to go to a dealer Gone - MY2012 Facelift FL2 GS

Any fault codes? You could try unplugging the the connectors on the EPB activators and and spray with WD40 in case they are corroded or dirty ? and as you suggest could be the switch? odd its ok when warm. 2013 FL2 XS.

Do you engage the EPB routinely? A lot of people with automatic gearboxes never use the handbrake and then wonder why it jams up.

I'd check for fault codes and then probably dismantle the rear brakes and check that the EPB motors are working normally- you can activate them directly with a 12v feed and a some testing wires. Jules

Does the EPB not come on automatically on the Auto? It does on the manual. 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Nope. On my SD4 you have to manually switch on the EPB. It will automatically release on moving after selecting a gear. You can also manully release it via the switch. Jules

On my TD4 Manual you have to apply it, it only comes on automaticly if the ignition is switched off, if yours is coming on on its own something is wrong ? 2013 FL2 XS.

yes, mine comes on automatically when I switch off the engine (the only time the EPB gets used is when parked for me), if it was coming on while driving I'd have all sorts of issues!

Thanks Jules, I had assumed the auto behaved the same, I wonder why it doesn't. 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Normally you turn the automatic off when Park is selected - which locks the transmission but the EPB doesn't activate unless switched manually.

You can force the engine to shutdown when Neutral is selected by holding down the start /stop button - again the EPB doesnt activate and the car is then free to roll. Jules

I have an Auto, like Jules I tend to use Park and not the EPB, unless I am parked on a steep slope.
Being old fashioned I then also apply full lock so the car will not run in a straight line.
The parking brakes on cars I have owned in the past have not always been strong and reliable.

I find that the FL2's automatic 'Hill Hold' to work perfectly and is very useful when driving. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Its probably just habit but I always engage the EPB after stopping - maybe its because I drive a manual car more frequently than the FL2. Jules
