Juddering when slowing/turning corners

Hi

I bought a 2013 SD4 Auto 6 months ago, I found it slow to change gears when going up hill and as it was under warranty the dealer had a look at it and said it was low in transmission fluid. The car felt a bit better but the problem was still there to a certain extent. A few weeks later we had snow and I noticed that my RWD was not working. Again, the dealer took it back and said that it needed a new transfer pack. I had 3 months warranty with the car which has now expired and the car feels like there is another issue with the transmission/diff.

When going round corners the car can judder and the steering wheel moves from side to side. The juddering also happens when slowing down on straight roads. It doesn't happen every time but it feels like it is happening more often now. Any ideas what this could be? If it is the transfer case again, would I be able to go back to the dealer due to the new part being fitted 3 months ago or will I just take it to my regular mechanic?

Thanks in advance

Take out the haldex fuse and see if de-activating the haldex unit makes any differrence. Ignore the warning on the screen - they will clear when you pop the fuse back.

FYI - JLR call the haldex unit a "0n-demand coupling" Jules

Thanks so much, I will give that a try. Does it damage the car if left off for a while?

No, but you lose all the special programs, stability control, HDC and the car wouldn’t pass an mot. It will also spin the front wheels when moving off smartly.

Could this have been what was actually wrong with it when I had no rwd in the snow?

I feel like my dealer may have done a quick fix until my warranty was up but the problem was always there. Is this possible or too hard to prove? Just wondering if I should go back to him and ask him for the warranty for the work done to the transfer pack or would this be two separate matters?

This Thread explains the Haldex and contains some info on Error Codes.

Do you have any Error Codes?

I am puzzled that you have symptoms of Hadex 'Lock Up' -- Juddering because front and rear axles are locked together, and Haldex 'Failure' -- No drive to rear axle as you pull away. (You may have more than one problem)

Does the 'Special Functions' buttons appear to work?

This Thread has similar symptoms to yours -- may be worth talking to Bell Engineering.

Hey, no I am not getting any error codes. How will I know if the special functions are working? Does the suspension change? I haven't really used any but can check.

I think I might get it serviced and see if that helps as the link you sent sounds similar and they were able to sort it with a haldex service.

Mine doesn't lose power going up hill, it just revs high before changing to the next gear. I sometimes switch it to command shift to move it up a gear manually as the revs go really high.

Thanks everyone for your help!

The FL2 suspension is passive normal springs, so do not change.

A comprehensive description of the terrain control is in the workshop manual
