United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Sumatra Black

Not sure what the difference is between the xs and the hse,

I briefly had a 2010 HSE TD4 before changing it for my XS - to me the noticeable differences were:-
Better Stereo, extra speakers in the D-pillar make a big difference Shocked
Sunroof (was an option on the XS)
memory function on the driver's seat - useful when SWMBO is vertically challenged... Laughing I think the mirrors on the doors had memory settings too...
Genuine plastic wood trim on the dashboard... Very Happy
IIRC the mirrors dipped when reverse was selected...
The HSE has a spoiler on the tailgate - which does nothing other than increase your chances of being rear-ended by an HGV by masking the 3rd brake light...

Good luck with whatever you decide as the replacement vehicle and i hope you get everything resolved soon.

Just a quick query, are sd4s autos booked at higher retail value than a td4 manual for similar model cars, found a few td4 xs manuals, but need auto for towing.

@Chrism551 - If i understood the question right, is a SD4 Auto XS a higher book value than a TD4 manual XS (same age / mileage/ condition etc.)? Answer - yes, SD4 auto has a higher book value - it is a more powerful vehicle with a more sophisticated transmission. But remember, because of the age of these vehicles now, low mileage and a good service history will hold more weight in the trades's book value than extra power & toys inside the cabin.

If you need to tow, stick with the SD4 Auto. The TD4 Auto has a flatter torque / power curve than the SD4 - so less of a grin when dragging boat / caravan / horsebox / whatever up a steep gradient...

Good luck with the search & do let us know what you eventually decide on...

After several weeks of searching I finally got fixed up with a 2014 sd4 HSE, what a difference in interior etc on teh earlier cars. Anyhow, seemed cheap, too cheap and sold without warranty but test drove beautifully so i bought it. A week of pleasurable driving and now its showing its true colours, it was cheap for a reason but no idea what the isssue is as yet...more to follow.

Nothing other than car seems to go into limp mode, and be utterly gutless to the point of being dangerous at junctions. No real sign it has gone into limp mode until you come to set off. No misfire or anything like that. Done it three times now, every time in slow moving traffic. Not even in hot weather. Been fine today in 24deg heat so not temp related. No codes other than one for the gearbox. Last time it did it, fuel level was low, but previously over half a tank, so can't see it being fuel tank related. Other than this issue, love the car.

I do wonder if the Turbo Vanes clog up overtime and stick a bit when subjected to long, easy, runs.

Mine suffered from several 'no error messages or codes' slow no power starts before it developed into a regular feature complete with 'reduced performance' messages and DTC error codes.

Once the Dealer had exercised the turbo and vanes I have not had any further occurrences of lost power. (touch wood)
