Chicken Help - Is CG's clinic open?

Hi CG – do you mind if I pick your brains? We have 5 hens, recently one that was a couple of years old died of an unknown cause. Today I found one covered in blood but apparently uninjured – another is in a really poor state with a length of bowel hanging out of its backside. At the same time one that has been broody for the past couple of weeks has become very pale and seems to be going the same way as the first!

I am a medic – of humans so have a fair understanding of anatomy but am rather perplexed by what is going on. My wife has heard that if a chicken gets the taste of blood they can turn cannibal – Any thoughts?

Cheers

Tim

possibly they are restoring the pecking order - fighting it out - try putting some small toys/little footballs/apples hanging from strings in with them to distract them. or watch them see which is the bully and pen it separately for a few days , in the cooler Laughing At work

For the next topic how do you let your children know that two of their pets have 'gone' - all this the week after the cat died Sad

Did you at least put a blind fold on the poor thing? what were her last requests?

Last week I sent 45,000 of my little pets to chicken heaven, or at least I waved goodbye too them as they left the farm on trucks, just waiting for the cheque now, no remorse Whistle At work
