 The rubber collar below the joint actually has the removal tool built in. The pipes are held together by a C clip, which the tool engages with and opens as a result. The way I do it is to place an open ended spanner just larger than the metal pipe below the rubber collar, then hit it from below with a small hammer. This will force the metal release tool of the collar into the C clip, which will force it upwards and free from the metal pipe.
