2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

I have a January 2007 Freelander 2 GS (74k miles)

JGH I suggest you add one more important change (see other posts on swirl flaps).

If you have a high miler suggest you change the inlet manifold for a non-swirl flap version (11MY onwards).

The inlet manifold on our 2007MY Freelanders are prone to failing with fragments of broken flap ingested into engine with catastrophic consequences.

Hi Mostyn, thanks for info. I had planned to take off the manifold and remove the flaps this year. I did not know there was a flapless version. For £135 this looks like a good option. Have you made this swap?

Yep, so far you have the only 2006 registered car I have seen on this forum.

The Fifth Gear review on youtube was one of the reasons i bought one.

You may have a unique car there.

Hi JGH99

Yes I made the swap over a year ago. Replaced with the part number listed. Now with peace of mind since I read other Freel2 owners had flap failures and therefore replacement engines.

Overall the car is it's normal self, perhaps drives better and smoother pulling away from a stop, no difference on fuel so far. When it was first fitted and along with an EGR clean the whole combo was fantastic like a new car ... until after 12mths the EGR needs a new clean !

You will find a wealth of info on here from people who have been there worn the tshirt.......etc.

A quick search will often answer most questions. If not a post will usually get a quick response.

Hello Herdwick, you have an early car.
If you want to know how early, go to a main dealer (I usually find the Parts Dept most helpful), tell them your car's VIN, and ask for a printout of whatever is on their Microcat system.
This should give you the actual build date (as distinct from registration date).
Plus all the car's original specification, right down to a first-aid kit if one was supplied.
Might be useful if you ever need to replace something such as trim, and want to know the colour specification.
If the build date is 25.10.06 or later, it's an early production car.
If before 25.10.06, it's pre-production.
Early cars suffered from metallic swarf in the steering (a sub-component wasn't washed properly before assembly).
I'd suggest - check on this site for symptoms, though most probably it'll have been dealt with by now.
The other common bugbear is rear differential bearing, though it seems not all cars suffered - mine's been OK.
But Freelander 2's are not bad cars, and certainly not so troublesome as something like a Disco 3. The quick brown fox

Thanks for the info.

The car is SH56, registered 30.11.06, supplied new by Parks Land Rover in Scotland. (Ayr I think). 2 owners and full history all with Park Land rover.

It was a mad ebay purchase, so I hope I dont regret it. Looks like it is already suffering from 'flat battery' syndrome. Something I am used to with Range Rovers.....

Interesting reading through this old thread.

The first 'spyshot' photos show VX55 EUJ, which was registered on 21 Feb 2006

The next I know of is VX56 DBV, registered 1 Sep 2006 and is in the Dunsfold collection. It was used in the Autocar magazine Falklands issue and on test in the desert. Chassis number: SALFA24A37H000228 It was a PP2-build (pilot production) L359 vehicle, built in July 2006 to Italian market specification, in the launch colour of Tambora Flame.

The next is olegit's on here, VX56 DCE, again registered 1 Sep 2006.

I then know of the following development cars:

VX56 ETV
VX56 DCY
VX56 DXP
VX56 EFA
VX56 EFJ
VX56 EFM
VX56 EFU
VX56 EFC
VX56 EFE
VX56 EFR
VX56 EFW
VX56 EFZ
FSZ 3820
VX56 EFG

VX56 DXR
VX56 DZA

All registered between 1 Sep and 25 Oct 2006.

In terms of VINs I know a lot of early cars went to the USA, No 000478 had a build date of 29 Sep 2006. By 1 Nov 2006 they were up to 001386 and by mid Jan 2007 they were over 010996.

My own (UK) car, No 019987 was built on 26 Feb 2007 and registered on 19 Mar 2007. So in five months they had built some 20,000 FL2s.

By the end of production 432,762 had been built. Tim

Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

Not as old as my Peugeot 504, 7 years when I bought it, had it for 18 years. Seat Ibiza also 18 year. Both over quarter of a million km (odometer died in both cars).

Freelander only had for a decade, new like the Seat Ibiza.

To date the Freelander has been the most reliable car.

Modifications on 504: Hydraulic key lock on clutch, air shocks on rear with onboard compressor & PSI gauge on dashboard, after market air conditioning (to date, best ever, could freeze the nuts off a brass monkey), fridge, KEF GT200 hi-fi & first CD car player available, a Sony & a 2 amplifiers. Van den Hull cable everywhere. Electronic ignition upgrade (I could unplug the module for security). Replaced the four 7 inch sealed beams with halogen, main hi-beam 2 x 120 watts, plus the low beam 2 x 55 watts. 2 metres in front of the car one could feel the heat off the globes!



Freelander: Acoustic insulation has been by far the most worthwhile addition, not that the Freeland was a noisy car to start with. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

478 must be 29 Oct 2006 then... I guess.... 2006 FR2 Diesel manual, now 2006 FR2 Petrol auto.
