PTU oil change

Have just completed an oil change on the PTU unit.
What a hassle with that metal tray in the way...... Twisted Evil
I took out 500 ml and thats what I put back in so I was just wondering if necessary to remove 120ml after you fill it back up.
Thoughts please.

Hi
when i did mine i didnt remove any extra and interestingly got out around 500ml!
Used clear plastic tubing and big syringe to remove and then replace fluid and managed to do this from approx mid vehicle looking forward.
Was a pain but pleased i did it.

The issue with 'putting back the amount you took out' is how do you know the volume of oil that was in the PTU was correct? Perhaps it was over full. Or what if your PTU is leaking oil via the seals and there was insufficient oil?

I think it's best to remove all you can (I find a soft tube works best), fill to full and then remove the specified amount.

I drilled a hole through one of the lower bolts and used that as a sump plug

If you put the front up on ramps high as you can put blocks of wood under the ramps, then all the oil runs towards the prop end of the PTU so you can then get it all or most of it out. 2013 FL2 XS.

It's near impossible to get all the PTU oil out as the base has a few compartments. See photos (one has a
