WARNING!! if you are selling your Freelander privately.

My Son who is selling his, BMW on Gumtree, received a phone call asking to view the car.
3 Gentlemen arrived from an EU Eastern Country and looked round the car with interest.
They then asked for the bonnet to be lifted so they could check the injectors, one of the Gentlemen said that he had spotted an oil leak and reached down, disconnected one of the leads to the Turbo and confirmed no oil leak and asked for a test drive. As soon as my Son started off on the run a warning flag came up on the Dash.
Fortunately, Andy realised they had interfered with the car and challenged them and returned home and directed them to do one. All confirmed in the morning and loose cable reattached.
Lesson 1 never allow multi buyers to turn up. Lesson 2 never show a buyer the car at night.
Gumtree & eBay are the most likely to be Scammers and time wasters.

They also trick you to turn your back and put oil in the water.

That only works if the cap to the expansion tank comes off easily. Never did on my FL2!

Interesting that you say that .

Generally here, Toyota and BMW have quite a good reputation for build quality and reliability. Not the best but certainly better than VAG (with Skoda being the best of that group) and definitely better than JLR.

I had a BMW 330D estate for 6 years until I retired and mechanically it was very sound and the engine was superb. I only got rid of it as the 3L diesel wasn't really suitable for the short journeys I do most of the time now. Jules

I have to be mindful on this site as I was accused of being racist about the French, when all I was saying is they make Censored cars.

The old Pug diesel was a great engine.
Had 205, 305 and 405 diesels - really easy to work on. Jules

When I worked at a Citroën main dealer, the engines were fine, actually all the mechanical parts were pretty good, but the bodies were far from good. This was over 25 years ago now and things look to have improved a lot. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I thought that the FL2 Diesel engine was developed from a French PSA engine.

If so I have no complaints. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

2013 FL2 XS.
