In actual fact, it was due three years ago when the car was seven years old.
112k miles I think is the mileage change interval.

I did my own, not particularly difficult. First timing belt I'd changed but have done another one since.
If you don't fancy DIY option basically any garage will be able to do this. It's a common transverse engine used in a multitude of vehicles other than Landrover, Ford and Peugeot/Citroen etc. So if there is a decent local garage try them. Shop around for prices though. £4 - 500 I'd imagine will be the ball park. Make sure you get the waterpump changed at the same time, false economy not to because the timing belt needs to come off anyway to change it and a new tensioner can put excess pressure on a tired pump causing it to fail. I'd also change the auxiliary belt while it's off as well for peace of mind. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Thanks for the informative and constructive reply, I have recently changed the timing belts on my rover 75 kv6, and that was an absolute pain it was just then that I realised at the age of 67 I don't want to be doing it any more Wink

A Freelander 2 timing belt is much easier than the 3 belts on the KV6.
It's about a 3 hour job, if you have the right tools to hand. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

If its any help. I'm 65 and did mine last year. Lots of videos on youtube.
Straight forward; camshaft sprocket and starter ring gear lock up with the simple timing tools so there is no danger of messing things up. You do need to remove the starter motor to lock the crank properly - the thin timing rod can bend and wont hold the crank against a torque wrench.

I use a Gates kit which included a new water pump as well as the pulley and tensioner..
I also changed the auxillary belt. Jules
