We are downsizing to one car,the Freelander is too big for my wife to drive so it looks like a
Mini Cooper or Cooper S 5 door exclusive.
But doubt if I will ever get anything as good for driving comfort.
I’ve spent the last few months sorting it out so I could sell it privately
So,it’s had a replacement diff, all 4 wheel bearings replaced,Brembo brakes,
Haldex service, going into Landrover Conway for service as it’s due
Mot due in April, but getting new Mot
Just updated sat nav to 2020.
4 x 19” Michelin cross climate suv2 in December
4 x spare 18” Evoque black alloys with nearly new General grabber AT3
The only extras available new where privacy glass, spoiler, towbar & rubber mats.
It had one previous private owner when I bought it from Landrover dealer
6,500 mls when it was nearly 3 yrs old for £25,000

I will do the Autotrader valuation and arrive at a fair price
Seen a few for sale between 15 and 17
But I am determined to sell it private if possible
Thanks once again for helpful advice

Second hand car prices are now falling fast, dealers are cutting prices because interest rates rose, slowing down demand, also new car supplies are increasing again. All this means a vehicle that sold for 20k 18 months ago, is likely to sell nearer 15k today.

I'd personally avoid anything Mini, as they're far from reliable.
My sister has a new one (on PCP) every 3 years, but wouldn't have own one herself, as they're in for warranty work quite a lot. She also wouldn't own one out of warranty due to the amount of warranty work she has to have done.
She only has a Mini because she likes them, and works right next to the dealer, so it's of no real inconvenience when it's in for work. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate on order.
Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE.

Actually the Cooper is very good to drive. The chassis is set up just right for the power, which is why my sister is on her 4th. But she never owns them, and wouldn't. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Is there a problem actually owning one?
If you buy one and sell it again before the warranty expires, then buy another new or newish
one to replace it Is there something I am missing here?

Is it somehow cheaper to get one on pcp than just buying it for cash?

I would think pcp is popular as nobody has money on the hip nowadays.

If it's on PCP, the dealer is more eager to keep the PCP holder happy, especially a serial PCP holder. PCP is basically a lease, so the PCP holder doesn't own the vehicle, the PCP provider does.

Owning a Mini should be OK, but I'd only have one under warranty.
There are many engine, gearbox and suspension failures before 100k, so it wouldn't make a good put of warranty vehicle. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

If for example the car is 25k

After 3 yrs it’s worth 15k

Cost to own it for 3 yrs is 10k

Does it cost less than 10k to get one with pcp for 3 years?

Quick overview of UK savings statistics 2024:
-The mean average amount of money held in a UK savings account is £17,365.
-Up to a third (34%) of adults had either no savings (or less than £1,000) in a savings account.
-Around six in 10 (61%) UK adults save money either every or most months.
-Almost two-thirds (65%) of people believe they wouldn’t be able to last three months without borrowing money.

Without PCP (or similar) far fewer new cars would be sold as most people simply buyers do not have the spare cash to buy the new car they desire and or if they did it would have to be a much lesser model. Jules

Lease or pcp , call it what ever it’s still debt. When I was growing up it was only gamble what you can afford to loose and never a borrower nor a lender be.

People who buy cars with borrowed money buy more expensive cars.

People who buy cars with cash buy the cheaper model that they have budgeted for & actually own it & can drill holes in it because it is theirs to modify.

Our current car was actually ordered for a buyer who needed finance, which ultimately fell through. We bought the car with cash (like all previous cars), & because for our purposes it had a terrible registration date. We ask for it to be de-registered & re-registered (blue slip in Australia) at a more appropriate date (had to be stored for a few months) so we could travel to Europe.

A car is burnt money. As least only burn cash so you are not on the borrowed treadmill.

The car is there to be "abused", which can only be done if you actually own it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
