With the membrane I put in and the paint between them (same way the heat shield is fixed in the first place) I’ll take my chances. In any case the aluminium will corrode 1st if there is an issue. Corrado VR6 Mystic Blue - Gone

Yes i think that would fail an MOT do they not do panels for this area anyone know? also is it affecting the inner sill.

I've no links, but the rear arch repair panels are out there,
my sprayer/body repairer managed to get one, covered a larger area than he needed,
I'll see if I can find the photo's sometime. DAVE.

Oh well, MOT is on the 3/1 so wouldn’t have the time to do a proper repair. Looking through the other thread, referred to at the beginning of this one, the panel doesn’t seem to be structural so shouldn’t be an issue as long as it doesn’t pose of a risk of catching on pedestrians. Seeing that most of its covered by trim and completely covered when the doors is shut I don’t think it’ll be an issue but I’ll find out on the 3rd! Corrado VR6 Mystic Blue - Gone

The MOT boot of rules states that the body should be sound for 30cm around vital suspension, body and seat belt mountings, and structural body members like sills.
The rust hole you have could well be considered structural area, simply because it's part of the sill, and is less than 30cm away seat belt and suspension mounting points. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

It’s a monocoque chassis. Any part of it can be deemed to be structural and contributing to the overall integrity of the car.

Pop riveting a repair panel is also a no no, has to be welded.
To get it through an mot I'd be inclined to go over the whole repair with body filler, hiding the type of material used and the pop rivets then spray it body colour. Bit of a bodge but I don't see it passing in its current state unfortunately. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Mine - an 08 HSE - has just failed its MOT on corrosion at this spot on both sides. It has a leaky shock absorber too.

The problem is a bit of a surprise - a few months ago I had it in to a local LR specialist to give the underside a thorough inspection looking specifically for corrosion as I was about to have a new rear diff put in. They reckoned everything was fine. I paid for that inspection.

The problem now is that a quotation is a bit tricky - the body shop has to get into the job first before the extenmt of the problem is known. Anyway she's booked in tomorrow locally and I'll report back.

Fortunately the whole repair will be hidden by the door when closed.
