freelander 2 engine problem misfire between 1000 and 2000rpm

the car is freelander 2 2.2 td4 automatic 150bhp year 2008
problem started a week ago, when the cold weather arrived.
Difficult engine start in the morning,a little white smoke.
Missfire and difficult runing from 1000 to 2000 rpm, after 2000 runing ok.
Sometimes runs ok,without any problem.
Any ideas?

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

If it started with the cold weather then the first port of call for me would be the glo plugs. They are used for a while after the engine has started to run to assist with ignition as well as warming the cylinder before starting.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Rimini Red

The glow plugs are modulated on and off for a long time after starting, depending on engine temperature. The longer the engine takes to warm up, the longer the plugs are run for. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
