United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Just taken out insurance with Hastings and had this strange request:

"We now need some photos of your vehicle, so please send us all of the following:

Images of both the left and right side of the vehicle.
Images of both the front and back of the vehicle.
An image of the engine with the bonnet up.
Images of inside the car - both the front and back - with the doors open.
Image of the instrument panel (e.g. the speedometer, fuel gauge etc.)."

Never been asked for pictures before. Can understand them wanting to check for previous damage but must be a new thing

Anyone else come across this? Andy

Never heard of that before, could prove problematic for some, especially the non technical IT people. My 83year old Mum wouldn't even know how to open the bonnet, let alone attach numerous photos to an email, bless her.

This has become common practice here if you do not have continuous cover with the same insurer. Sadly too many cheats out there. driving on the right side

Nope. I wonder what has triggered that. I could understand it for rare , modified or very frequently stolen cars but for a FL2 I'm surprised. But I guess its because there are just so many thieving scumbags out there. Jules

It's required for agreed value classic car policies. Never heard of it for everyday relatively low value vehicles. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

That’s actually understandable I suppose , you only have to look at the number of so called ‘ accessorised’ 4x4s on the road , and I’d bet that 95% of them haven’t said a word to insurers . The one thing I always liked , indeed still like about the FL2 is that it’s a simple , elegant even , classic design that looks right first time . Thankfully you don’t see many that have been ‘ pimped ‘ . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Design is fab. Have you noticed how many new SUV,s/4x4,s are all reverting back to the basic square box shape similar to the Freelander 2.
I think the success of the New Defender has made the others follow suit. Jim A

Been with Hastings some years now but for next months renewal they have increased my premium by 48.3% (£120) on last year’s price of £248. Nothing has changed risk wise and no claims made.

Churchill for the upcoming year is 75 quid cheaper on a like for like policy - small increase in compulsory excess is the only difference. Normally I’d call Hastings to get a bit of a better price but this year they really are taking the pee. I'll be switching insurers this year.

What kind of cover do you get for that price. Your insurance is a fraction of mine at over £1k. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

My daughter had to do this 6 years ago with her defender 90 as it was classed as classic vehicle. I believe that was with Hastings and it was the only time she had to do it, she never got asked to do it with other insurance companies.

I was never asked to do it with my 1982 series 3 and that had had engine, fuel type and chassis changes.

I guess they're not sort after by the Albanian mafia. Jules

Since buying and restoring my 73 Triumph Stag in 2009 I have had to submit photos every year as part of the agreed value policy but never heard of this for a non classic car policy. I have however had to send copies of my licence entitlement and alarm/immobiliser certificate and Datatag for my motor bike. 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep
