Propshaft Noise

Hi all we have a 2010/11 sd4 Freelander Auto, and the prop seems to be making a noise under load, checked underneath but nothing broke or loose etc, but it does sound like something is loose inside the propshaft. Can i remove the complete prop and run the vehicle? and are there different props for these vehicles or all the same from a certain year?

After some off roading I had a noise develop from the propshaft. It turned out to be a bit of one of the heat shields that had been bent and was rubbing on the propshaft.

You can drive the vehicle with the prop removed to test it.
There are a few different prop designs, based on year of manufacture, gearbox type and engine type. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Thanks Nodge, I been scouring to net looking at prices, we are going to go for a new one, i am about 90% sure it one of the joints on the prop (suspect rear), but going to remove the prop totally on weekend to try it.

just an update......upon further investigation, we have narrowed it down to the rear propshaft joint (where it connects to rear differential), spoke to quite a few propshaft reconditioners and most say to get a new prop, so have located one at £237 delivered (new), will fit when it arrives and see what happens.

Hi Jules
The propshaft came from a Ebay Company, it was £237 delivered and Ebay number eBay Item No. 144845822233

So on Saturday the plan was to remove the prop, and wait until later in the week for new bolts etc, I managed to get the vehicle jacked up and on axle stands, As i live semi rural getting a level area was pretty difficult, but like i said got it up on stands, and got the tools ready, i had just finished chocking the vehicle and we had a delivery at our main gate, it was the propshaft, so after carrying the new prop about 100m to the house/vehicle, i thought lets have a cuppa before i start, so i did and returned to vehicle about 20mins later, got underneath and could hear a hissing, i thought thats strange must be a leak on one of the tyres, so the wife was close by so i asked her to go to all 4 wheel and listen, she did the fronts and as she was walking to the rear of the vehicle, i felt a sharp pain in the side of my neck, so i shouted at the wife to be more careful as i thought she accidentally kicked some loose chippings, as i shouted she scream and said get out quick, i did and as i stood up i felt the blood rush from my head, i looked down and there was a snake, it was a bloody Adder it had bit my neck (it was not a vampire lol) Censored , i was not in a good way so wife dialled the three 9's and i spent saturday eve and sunday in bloody hospital on a drip, i was released this morning lol, so will attempt again tomorrow......and let you all know......damn cars

Wow, an Adder in Wales. I've seen a couple here in Cornwall, but they slither away quickly the moment they see a human.
Being bitten by one is very unfortunate, and even worse if it needs a hospital visit.

Update Hissing Sid has gone to a new home, a pasture with plenty of tree coverings about 2 miles away, so he is safe and none the wiser, i prefer my apprentices of the human kind not the scaly ones.
