As a "new" owner of a 2007 2.2 TD4 I am slowly starting to notice things that need fixing and that are wrong.

One thing is that my thermostat is never getting above 70ish (temp dial stays a bit under the halfway mark)
But that is probably solved by just replacing the thermostat, one other issue is an oil leak or slow drip from this part:



I have no idea what to google for as I have no idea what I am looking at
it leaks on the left side of this bit from the looks of it, under it is some oil on the plastic tray that I clean daily now, it's not loads of oil, and it might be fine maybe? but if anyone has any idea, happy to hear things to try.

Have you checked the engine temperature using the live data from the ECM? My temperature gauge shows just under ½, but live data shows the engine runs at 80-85°C. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The replacement for the SE.

I don't have means for running diagnostics (yet) so can't confirm it.

But if 90 is halfway, mine is hovering around 60-70 and climbs only towards 90 when running idle (in traffic) and will instantly drop when you start driving again, so I am pretty sure that it is stuck open at the moment.

More worried about the oil leaking out. Also in the service history I couldn't find the thermostat, so it is probably time it gets replaced anyway

I cant see an oil leak in your photo - which part are you referring to ?

The round "silver" thing at the end of the hose in the middle, you can just see some oil on the plastic tray below it.

Can't identify what part that is, have you any other photos of it?

Getting dark here now, but I can make some more pics of it tomorrow, it is the front yes, between the radiator and the engine straight down, I have the metal plate, and in front of that is the plastic one (front as in towards the front of the car) there is this small gap in between them which is just about where the oil spot is.

Its the Turbo/intercooler hose some oil is normal, dependant on milage. 2013 FL2 XS.

not worth the trouble really - there is always some oil in the turbo hoses and it seeps out under pressure.

You could check the tightness of the hose clips/clamps Jules

BMW went one stage further with my 3 series - they removed the temp gauge completely.

Only by using Torque Pro was I able to monitor coolant temp and discover by chance that the thermostat was stuck partially open. Took ages to warm up when commuting to work and then got very hot on the Nurburgring. Jules

Small update, I "contained" the leak by replacing the hose clamp, still not as dry as I would like to see it, but also not creating wet spots any more, so guess the old clamp was just not up for it any more, new one is a bit wider as well so presses down on more of the hose.

The silvery thing that the hose attaches to has quite a lot of space for the hose to go over, so I figured a bit wider clamp might do the trick as it covers more surface.
