I have a false tyre pressure alert on my 16 plate MY15. I don’t know if is a fault or possibly an end of life sensor. Does anybody know how long the batteries in the TPMS sensors should last? Potted LR history since 1990:

TPMS batteries last up to 10 years. They normally give a low battery warning on the Ipack. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I have the external ones as it was easier as I carry 2 spare wheels in the outback. Internal sensors with only one spare wheel is not an option.

5 years & the signal was getting a bit iffy. I replaced the batteries & signals were perfect again.

The sensors are powered up when the car is doing about 20kph. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

TPMS Battery life is 5Y after that it deteriorates creating false signals this in turn accelerates TPMS battery failure.

I got mine from Continental/VDO the sensors that I bought were preprogrammed

After install my LR2 recognized the sensors in just a few miles of driving.


My original sensor were still working at 10 years



I didn't post the part number for my sensor because I am reasonably certain that yours are a different frequency than mine. But if you get sensors for a Freelander II instead of a LR2 then you should be fine.

It looks like the battery is replaceable. It is a soldered in CR2450S.
Unfortunately this isn't an economic repair for me because the cost of the replacement battery plus the cost of getting the old sensor out to repair it (£1 per inch at JB Rubber, Corby) is pretty much the cost of the replacement sensor that I bought on eBay. Potted LR history since 1990:

Yes its better when you get a new tyre to get it done then I guess.

I replace them all when i get new tires if they're 4-5+ years old.

For most folks that would be every, or every other, tire change.

You can actually change them yourself, the trick is breaking and re-making the tire bead seal, youtube will show you how if so inclined. Kind of cumbersome so I just do it with new tires.

Europe and N. America use different frequencies for TPMS, so different sensors. Watch for that if ordering them via re-sellers.
