Engine system failure, special programs not available.

Hi,

Freelander 2 td4 2011

Start motor, three beeps, yellow car on board, motor revs up to 1200 by himself. HDC fault, Terrain system not available on display. Press break pedal, revs down to 800, free brake pedal, revs back to 1200. Press accelerator pedal, nothing happens, revs stays to 800. Press brake pedal, revs down to 800 again. No pedal depressed, revs start to go up to 1200 and back to 800 and again 1200. Stop the engine, start again, all normal for two three days then again, the same, even when I am driving. Any ideas ?
Thanks

As the cold weather arrives, think new battery first.

The FL2 suffers very easily from odd faults due to poor 12v power to electronic units as the car starts.

After a few years the battery may need replacing even if it doesn't seem too bad in tests.

Search on site for battery problems or fault codes if you have read them. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I have changed the batery, same problem. Now I discovered that when I depress clutch pedal, revs also go down from 1200 to 800 same as when I depress brake pedal.

Have you measured the battery voltage when switched off then with the engine running and with lights on? Is the alternator delivering about 14.5v ?
After some very cold weather a few weeks ago my FL2 had been outside for a couple of weeks and when I started it (with a 20 second delay for the glow plugs) the message came up "no special programs available or traction control" I let it run for a few minutes and restarted and all OK. My battery is now 9 years old! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Problem solved

Two wires in the cable loom on left side of the footwell, under the carpet, where you rest your left foot when you drive, rubbed one to each other. Moved the cable loom near the left side pilar. No problem since. How I discovered this ? Sometimes when I changed gears and put my foot to rest, the fault apears, sometime not. See photo. Lot off messeges on Tester like " communications between ABS and Terrain Module, bad ABS sensor on left rear side etc.

The equivalent in the UK of the passenger kicking the fuse box in the footwell!

Interesting and thanks for the update.....bad design or better shielding needed.
