Aeroplus wind deflector

Hi Guys, has anyone had any experience with a wind deflector that sits on the roof .

Have spoken to them today and they have said would save around 15% on fuel aswell as improve stability although we don't have an issue with the stabilty and reduce drag.

Any thoughts Question

I seen these advertised in a caravan mag Thumbs Up

I just makes me remember the good old days caravaning with my mum & dad, they had something along the lines of these on their roof. (possible just a sheet of plywood)

I think this was when caravan where more flat fronted, nowadays they are slightly more aerodynamic

Saying that, I presume the current mpg data is with current models Thumbs Up

another thought is they would have to be mounted further forward above the rear doors on a FL2 (unless you have OEM roof rack) than the fitting in the picture, which might allow the swirling effect to comeback, and cancel out any benefit Question Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I had some experience with these deflectors back in the '80's. They were originally made for Volvo and when fitted they must have worked because the front of my caravan did not have the usual flies etc. when arriving at the destination. I cannot say what it did for the fuel consumption as I had a company car car at the time and didn't give a sh Censored .
Worth it just to keep the flies off but I must say that with the added height of the FL the benefit will be limited. My guess is that if you have to buy roof bars, cross member plus aerofoil you would have to do alot of miles to make it worthwhile. Ralph

If it does work getting the angle right would be critical to much and you would or not enough and it would serve no purpose. But having worked in Transport for over twenty years with companies using LGV 's with deflectors they had to be mounted as close to the trailor or box even to the point of it almost touching for it to work efficiently, otherwise the air causes a vortex in the gap between the deflector and trailor and caused lower mpg.

If it does work you will have to do a lot of miles before it pays for itself, apparantly it is fixed by attaching it to the roof bars, have I read somewhere that having roof bars lowers your mpg by 5%.

If you had not guessed already, I am not convinced on this one. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Agree totally, you would need to set up a smoke generator on your bonnet and get somebody to observe the air flow at your usual (very slow) cruising speed (maybe a cyclist) to attempt to get the the optimum angle and roof position. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit
